- Deep understanding of 1-6, or 5-8 Mathematics content and practice standards
- Mathematics teaching experience in the elementary grades with a proven track record of promoting high achievement in the classroom
- Experience differentiating math instruction for a range of learners, using techniques such as visual models, student discourse and opportunities to explain reasoning, instructional routines such as number talks, open-ended problems with multiple solution paths, and strategies for increasing engagement
- Experience writing lesson plans with clear, attainable learning goals and aligned activities
- Experience using a range of assessments to analyze student learning to inform instruction
- Demonstrate knowledge of the developmental needs of elementary learners and strategies to meet those needs through the curriculum
- Ability to identify and build on students' strengths and interests in order to support the development of a growth mindset in math learners
- Experience building computational fluency through conceptual understanding
- Strong classroom management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff, student body, and community
- Strong understanding of the Massachusetts Tiered System of Support (MTSS)
- Strong work ethic, alongside a commitment to doing whatever it takes for students to excel; instructional flexibility in order to meet student's needs using effective strategies
- Ability to be reflective and open to feedback
Key Responsibilities:
- Skillfully support student learning of Gr. 1-6, or 5-8 Mathematics content and practice standards within tier 1, 2, and 3.
- Empower and support diverse learners through individualized and small-group math instruction.
- Collect, manipulate, and analyze student mathematics data
- Collaborate with educators to effectively address student needs and improve instructional practice.
- Incorporate a variety of assessment tools and strategies in order to inform and modify instruction, as well as target intervention and enrichment needs.
- Participate in team meetings with grade-level colleagues as assigned.
- Participate in school and district-wide professional development.
- Partner with families to include them in each student's learning and development, guided by a profound understanding of the importance of this connection.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's in Education strongly preferred.
- Massachusetts Teacher Certification/Licensure in Elementary required, Mathematics 1-6 or 5-8 preferred.
