Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Facilities Shift Supervisor, the incumbent functions as a working leader to coordinate the tasks, activities, supplies and equipment of the carpenters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit conduct in accordance with all Gaming Commission Regulations and Seminole Tribe of Florida departmental policies and procedures.
  • Constructs, erects, installs and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, metal and wallboard in accordance with applicable building codes, oral instructions or specifications.
  • Fabricates cabinets, lockers, platforms, work benches, sheds and shelves; repairs slot bases, doors, roofs, woodwork and trim; assembles decks and shelving; hangs mirrors, bulletin boards, protective wall sheeting, ceiling tiles and signs.
  • Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, finish hardware, paneling, stairs, partitions and cabinet work.
  • Studies blueprints, sketches or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
  • Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling or repairing structure above ground level.
  • Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins or glue.
  • Shapes and levels materials to prescribed measurements.
  • Selects specified type of lumber or other material, prepares layout, makes working sketches, marks cutting and assembly lines on materials.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in good, clean working order
  • Promotes positive public / employee relations at all times.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, hazard-free work environment within area of responsibility.
  • Performs all other related and compatible / non-compatible duties as needed.
Qualifications:

High school diploma, trade school certificate preferred as well as a minimum of four (4) years of related experience and one (1) year of casino experience or an equivalent combination of education and / or experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must possess excellent hand / eye coordination as well as close vision.
  • Must be able to read, understand and interpret schematics, plans, and diagrams and drawings.
  • Must be able to work with a wide range of power tools, saws, drills, planers, and air tools as well as basic hand tools.

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • The Casino environment is hectic, fast-paced and often crowded and noisy. May be exposed to casino related environmental factors including, but not limited to, second hand smoke, excessive noise and constant exposure to general public.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with guests in English, specific to position duties and responsibilities.

Second preference is given to members of other federally recognized Native American Tribes who meet the job requirements.
