*Goodwill VISTA* Housing Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator
Sebago Lakes Region Fuller Center for Housing formed in 2019. Our mission is to repair homes for seniors and veterans in Raymond, Windham, and Standish, Maine. We focus on repair projects impacting home safety. We support low-income families who are often isolated, lonely, without immediate family help, and do not have the financial means to repair their homes. Seniors want to stay in their homes. With the housing shortage and long waiting lists for assisted living, we are providing a critical service. Families are incredibly grateful for our support and compassion, and we build ongoing long-term relationships that provide hope, friendship, and encouragement. Over the past 4 years, we completed 45 projects including replacing steps, doors, flooring, new decks, weatherization, and building ramps. Labor is free and families help pay for materials over time through our interest-free Greater Blessing program. Fuller Center supports poor and very poor families. We qualify families using HUD guidelines and select applicants based on (1) need, (2) willingness to partner, and (3) ability to repay through our Greater Blessings program. We are an all-volunteer organization founded by six local churches and St Joseph's College. Since our first project in 2020, 146 volunteers have worked 3,300 hours to help our families. We build and maintain relationships with local contractors and businesses who support our mission through discounted services and supplies. We are a local partner of the international Fuller Center for Housing, based in Americus, GA, which has nearly 100 chapters nationwide. They provide guidance, organizational tools, and limited grant funding. The VISTA member will help expand awareness of our mission and capabilities through enhanced outreach, PR, and marketing services. Also improve volunteer recruitment, training, and retention, and support project management efforts. Further help on this page can be found by clicking here.
