Franklin & Marshall College is recruiting for a full-time, 10 week position of Graduate Research Assistant.

Job Details:

* Location: F&M Campus - Lancaster, PA

* Classification: Full-time / Nonexempt

* Schedule: 40 hours per week, flexibly scheduled. 10 weeks.

* Reports to: Assistant Professor of Computer Science

* Department: Computer Science

Job Description:

The primary purpose of the project is to investigate the roles of theory of mind capabilities in a socially assistive robot. The work entails developing algorithms for theory of mind and/or conducting human subject experiments to examine the effects of robots with theory of mind. The development of these capabilities builds on our novel algorithm for chaining together a series of analogical inferences. The effects are examined in the context of a robot assisting a young child with a puzzle.

Essential Functions:

* Research and algorithm development for inferring beliefs and intents of the robot user AND/OR Design and conduct experiments to examine effects and perspective on social robots using theory of mind.

* Reviewing relevant literature, summarizing and presenting related works to the research group; scholarly writing leading to at least 1 publication.

* Assisting undergraduate research assistants on their projects (developing knowledge representation, algorithm enhancements, designing experiments, etc).

* All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree related to human-robot interaction (e.g., Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Psychology).

* Must be actively enrolled in a graduate or doctoral program in Computer Science or a field related to human-robot interaction.

* At least 1 year of research experience.

* Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.

* Proficiency in Google Suite Products (Docs, Gmail, Sheets, Slides, Drive).

* Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

* Successful interview.

* Successful completion of background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Prior research experience at a graduate level.

* Prior software experience with R or pandas.

* Experience researching topics related to knowledge representation, logical reasoning, planning, or analogy.

* Experience designing and conducting human subjects research.

* Experience researching topics related to social robotics.

* Experience developing software or models for human-robot interaction.

Additional Information:
