The primary purpose of the Grants and Research Coordinator is to advance the land-grant mission of West Virginia University by managing and providing centralized external funding development and administration for the Smith OEDC and WV communities through grant proposal development, award management, trainings and workshops, and impact reporting. This position will report to the Director of Outdoor Economic Development. Specifically, this position will be tasked with the management, research, writing, and reporting of pertinent grant, foundation, and corporate sponsorship opportunities in the fields of outdoor recreation infrastructure, community development, public health, conservation, and economic development. This position will also be responsible for writing and editing development pieces for donors, prospects, state, local, and national funding agencies, along with government and corporate partnerships. Also, this position will support data analysis, topic specific research, research coordination, and the development and delivery of reports to advance the office's work. This position will work with and support the efforts of the WV Grant Resource Center.

What You'll Do

Pre-award Grant Proposal Development

* Identify and monitor funding opportunities in outdoor recreation infrastructure, community development, outdoor business development, workforce development, STEM education, youth development, public health, and economic development. Considering funding sources that would include, but not limited to, federal, state, private foundations, donors, corporate support and other sources.

* Determine eligibility and coordinate the planning and preparation of proposals including preparing and compiling all components of each submission, ensuring that the proposal is formatted, packaged, and submitted in accordance with granting agency requirements.

* Establish contacts and manage professional relationships with local and national funding opportunities, foundations, governmental agencies, community-based organizations, representatives of the private sector, and contract vendors.

* The Pre-award development will work with and support the efforts of the WV Grant Resource Center to accomplish.

Post Award Grant Implementation Coordination

* Create and maintain grant funded project budgets.

* Support coordination and organization to advance grant related projects for partner organizations.

* In coordination with the Office of Sponsored Programs and the OEDC's budget manager, support the oversight of the financial aspects of grant operations including budget proposals, financial reporting, monthly reconciliation and invoicing, and monitoring allowable expenditures.

* In coordination with the Office of Sponsored Programs, monitor and coordinate the administration of post-award grants to ensure that budgeting and administrative policies, procedures, and agency requirements are being followed; manages administrative problems and/or budget changes occurring during the awarded granting period.

* Prepare materials for submission for reporting and reimbursement to granting agencies, following agency requirements for format, content, and submission methods.

Research, Benchmarking, Metrics & Tracking Coordination

* Complete data analysis and topic research from proposal, presentation, and report development and delivery.

* Coordinate research projects across departments, units, colleges, and external partners.

* Support the identification and opportunities for research related funding.

* Support the development of tracking mechanism for measuring program success and impact of OEDC programs

* In coordination with the OEDC program leads, lead the development of periodic impact assessments and annual report

Workshops, Training, and Education

* In coordination with other OEDC team members and the WV Grant Resources Center, develop virtual and in person grant and fundraising training programs to be implemented across West Virginia

* Develop an outdoor recreation economy funding and resources library and toolkit

* Bachelor's required in Outdoor Recreation Management, Business, Community Development, Leadership, Community Planning, Public Administration, English, Journalism, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

* A minimum of two (2) years of experience involving:

* Experience writing funding proposals for grants and other forms of funding

* Data analysis, topic research, and development and delivery of reports

* Technical experience with computer software, project tracking, and reporting

* Working in a collaborative environment across multiple departments

* Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.

* All qualifications must be met by the time of employment

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

* Strong understanding of the grant life cycle process including grant seeking, grant writing, grant coordination process, and financial management of grant funded organizations.

* Experience with proposal, presentation, and report development that is driven by data and research.

* Ability to review complex solicitations then develop and produce grants and other proposals individually and through project teams.

* Knowledge of current developments trends.

* Experience in writing and administering grants from corporate, foundation, governmental and other national grant-making organizations.

* Ability to determine informational needs, to collect and analyze information, and to devise and develop statistical analyses and reports.

* Database management skills.

* Knowledge of grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state, federal and university regulations.

* Knowledge of federal, state and/or community funding sources and mechanisms.

* Experience working at state or regional organizations.

* Knowledge of non-traditional funding sources.

* Proven ability to build partnerships with academic, governmental, and nonprofit organizations.

* Strong communication skills, including verbal and written.

* Proficiency in Microsoft: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

* Ability to work effectively in teams to collaborate with diverse groups of people.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Master's degree.

* Past work experience as grant coordinator or similar role

* Evidence of successful grant writing
