Grade: I SHIFT: Weekend Shift (Days)General ResponsibilitiesInstall and maintain water mains, valves, services, meter boxes, vaults, loops, fire hydrants, etc., with maximum efficiency and safety for the general public. Serve in a lead role when working with Utility Worker I regarding efficient location and maintenance.Essential Job Functions
Locate leaks and lines accurately to minimize unnecessary excavation and repair costs. Train new employees as needed. Operate equipment such as pumps, pipe-cutting hand tools, air compressors and radio, including heavy equipment as needed. Repair leaks on mains, replace curb stops and copper installations, and repair sleeves and split sleeves. Install bracing, blocking and strap fittings, pipes, valves, cut and cap mains. Calculate the requirements and requisition concrete, road gravel, fill sand and asphalt. Flush mains and service lines after water mains have been installed or repaired.Essential Job Functions Con't
Maintain and replace fire hydrants, notify the supervisor of fire hydrant part changes and meet with Fire Department officials when needed. Replace and restore paving, concrete and landscaping. Read and use maps to locate lines and valves to shut off the water as needed Replace and repair service lines and install and replace meter boxes as needed Communicate with customers by providing excellent customer service while performing duties. Track leak order tickets, reactivate service, and perform disconnect for non-payment. Perform disconnect for non-payment and reactivate services. Maintain traffic control in the work area using flags to ensure a safe working environment.Essential Job Functions Con't
Operate the assigned vehicle, keep it clean and report all mechanical problems. Maintain a valid driver's license. Adhere to all traffic laws and safety policies and procedures when driving company vehicles Work an on-call rotating schedule outside the regular schedule on a rotating basis. Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures. Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management. Perform other duties as assigned.EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Alabama Drivers License Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) class A required Grade I Water Certification (preferredExperienceTwo (2) years of construction or mechanical experience required; previous experience in leak repairs required.
