This position will provide clinical expertise and support to all departments by assisting with applying performance improvement methodologies and facilitating plans forimprovement.Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.2. Acts as a resource for performance improvement, regulatory compliance and the nationally endorsed hospital quality measures.3. Accurately abstracts Quality Measures from medical records for internal and external measure sets (CMS, TJC, P4P, GWTG, Sepsis, NSQIP, MBSAQIP, CJR, and any additional quality programs).4. Leads performance improvement activities.5. Performs/facilitates review of clinical quality of care issues through investigation, tracking, and initiation of providerinterventions.6. Leads incident investigations including interdepartmental reviews (IDR) , root cause analysis, near miss , criticalevents and sentinel events.7. Demonstrates appropriate utilization of resources necessary to obtain valid and reliable data entry.8. Performs all other related duties as assigned.Education & Experience Requirements•Bachelor's degree in related healthcare field required. If an RN must have a BSN. Master's Degree preferred.•5 years clinical experience in nursing, radiation therapy, respiratory therapy, or another related clinical field.•Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) are required if Quality Specialist will beparticipating in the Stroke Program.•Receive CPHQ Certificate (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) from the National Association forHealthcare Quality (NAHQ) within preferably 3 years after being in the position and no more than 5 years in theposition.•Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite preferred (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)•Clinical Quality Specialist responsible for abstracting surgical quality charts are required to obtain SurgicalClinical Reviewer -(SCR for the NSQIP/MBSAQIP Program) within three months.Core Competencies•Teamwork and collaboration are essential, as is the ability to work independently to complete tasks.•Excellent communication skills are required with all team members including but not limited to, Senior Staff andAdministration, Physicians, Nurses, Clinical Staff.•Problem-solving skills and attention to detail are required.•Must be able to plan and remain organized with multiple tasks due.Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment•May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee maybe exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through thehospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access).
