Job Description:
Largest aluminum scrap recycler west of Mississippi. 100+ year old family owned and operated firm. Full time, hourly Payroll & HR Clerk As the payroll clerk you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely issuance of Union payroll. This position is a full-time position in which you will spend approximately 50% of your time doing general payroll duties. The other remaining 50% of the time will be spent providing administrative support in the HR and Payroll office. The amount of time spent on different duties may fluctuate seasonally and based on company need.Payroll Duties/Responsibilities: Data entry of payroll & new hire information into Dayforce HRIS software Assembly and organizing of new hire filesTimecard review, clean-up and preparation for payroll processingAssist with report generation for points, attendance, raises, etc. Setup and distribution of employee pay cards (as necessary)Management and processing of payroll including distribution, and reissue of checks or returned ACHProvide outstanding customer serviceUnderstand and process complex union contract agreements as it pertains to payrollProcess and maintain records and compliance for child support, bankruptcy orders, garnishments and tax leviesWork directly with Human Resources on worker's compensation, sick leave and leaves of absence issues and paymentsAddress and resolve payroll discrepanciesProvide support for employee inquiries related to payroll issuesFiling, scanning, other clerical dutiesOther duties as assignedNew Hire Responsibilities: Screening, reviewing and qualifying applicantsConduct preliminary phone screensSchedule and arrange in-person interviews for the Plant ManagerAssist with and/or attend job fairs/recruiting activities Other duties as assignedHR Duties/Responsibilities: Maintain accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentationAnswer frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc.; refers more complex questions to appropriate senior-level HR staff or managementMaintain the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and recordsPerform periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriatelyProvides clerical support to the HR departmentMeet with new hires, review company policies, assist with the completion of new hire paperworkAssists with planning and execution of special events such as benefits enrollment, organization-wide meetings, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and retirement celebrationsPerforms other duties as assignedNon-Essential Functions:Provides backup for other payroll and HR team members during vacations.Required Skills/Abilities:Reliable - consistent attendance is REQUIRED Excellent verbal and written communication skillsExcellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacyExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailProficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related softwareProficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applicationsDemonstrated experience to successfully work under pressure and meet deadlinesDemonstrated experience to successfully maintain positive interpersonal relationshipsPossess strong verbal and written communication skillsDemonstrated experience to successfully work independently, organize own workExcellent grammar and proofreading skillsPreferred but not required: Knowledge of tax law, tax rates, payroll deductions, FICA and other withholdingsExperience with HRIS/payroll software applications: Paylocity, ADP, PayChex, Dayforce, UKG, etc.Schedule: M-F 7:30 am - 4:30 pm with an hour lunch 12:30 - 1:30 pm.
