Title: Public Health Nurse IIState Dept: Texas Department of State Health ServicesInternal Dept: Goodwill Temporary ServicesStatus: Non-Exempt - Full TimeSalary/Pay Rate: $32.00 - $36.00 per hour, weekly payHours: Mon to Fri, 8:00am to 5:00pmAddress: 5425 Polk St Houston, TX 77023Job Description:Under the direction of the Communicable Disease Manager, the Communicable disease response nurse will assist with surveillance and response for communicable diseases, giving special attention and focus to COVID-19 as well as emerging and re-emerging diseases.This position will help coordinate activities such as:
- Case investigation
- Case education
- Disease prevention and family support
- Assisting with access to care
- Networking with different providers and community partners
- Education of clinical staff in screening for and identification of communicable diseases
- Integrating with and providing public health support to Preparedness and Response teams and Medical Operation Centers
- Working with community partners and Emergency Managers to strengthen or in some cases develop public health response capabilities.
- Educate members of the public regarding communicable disease to assist with prevention efforts.
- Increase public awareness of communicable diseases in general and emerging diseases specifically to help rebuild trust in public health and create a motivated community.
- Coordinate activities of all ELC nurses
- Act as subject matter expert in Executive level decision-making bodies.
- Determine which activities are appropriate and prioritize resources.
- Provide general information on COVID-19 and other emerging diseases to regional staff through townhalls and appropriate messaging.
- Work with local health entities to strengthen front line detection and response efforts.
- Act as the main point of contact for ELC Nursing staff.
- Develop a strong, ethical, and motivated work culture.
- Work may include serving as a resource on nursing practices and education programs by performing consultative and administrative work.- Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
General Qualification Guidelines, Experience and Education - Must Have- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.- (BSN) Bachelors Science in Nursing or higher.- BLS - Basic Life Support.
Required Skills- Ability to coordinate numerous demands simultaneously to successful completion.- Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).- Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, and public relations skills.- Ability to work with a diverse team in a multi-disciplinary setting.- Ability to maintain confidentiality.- Conducts self with honesty and integrity; follow ethical principles of public health practice, follows the rules and laws applicable topublic health nursing.- Ability to be self-motivated to plan, organize and complete work accurately and on time with little direct supervision.
