The Senior Director of Accounting Quality and Compliance is responsible for overseeing the organization's accounting practices, ensuring strict adherence to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and maintaining the highest standards in financial reporting, quality assurance,and internal controls. This role will lead efforts to establish and enforce accounting policies, develop comprehensive compliance programs, and implement robust audit controls to ensure the integrity of financial data and the effectiveness of internal controls across the organization.
The Senior Director of Accounting Quality and Compliance will be responsible for Quality Assurance, Technical Knowledge and Compliance, and Reporting and Analytics activities as well as other tasks and duties outlined below.
Responsibilities and Duties
Quality Assurance:
Develop and Implement Quality Standards: Establish and maintain comprehensive quality assurance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure consistent standards across all accounting processes.Monitor and Evaluate Quality Metrics: Regularly review and analyze key quality performance indicators to identify trends, and areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions, as necessary.Conduct Internal Quality Audits: Oversee periodic internal quality audits to ensure adherence to established standards, identify discrepancies, and recommend improvements to enhance overall quality and efficiency.Lead Training and Development: Develop and deliver training programs to educate staff on quality standards, processes, and best practices, fostering a culture of continuous quality improvement.Technical Knowledge and Compliance:
Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and ensure compliance with GAAP, as well as other relevant accounting and financial regulations and standards. Stay updated on changes to accounting standards and ensure timely integration into company practices.Provide Technical Accounting Guidance: Serve as the subject matter expert on complex accounting issues, providing technical guidance and support to the accounting team and other departments.Oversee Internal Controls: Design, implement, and uphold internal controls to maintain client data accuracy, minimize errors, and ensure precise financial reporting.Manage External Audits: Collaborate with external auditors, manage audit processes, and ensure that all audit requirements are met in a timely and efficient manner.Reporting and Analytics:
Oversee Financial Reporting: Direct the preparation, review, and submission of all financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal and external requirements.Analyze Financial Data: Utilize data analytics to benchmark client financial performance, identify trends, and provide insights for strategic decision-making.Develop Reporting Processes: Implement and champion branded reporting standards and templates to facilitate the seamless collection, analysis, and distribution of financial information to clients and stakeholders.Support Strategic Planning: Design and oversee key quality indicators and metrics using dashboards, reports, and analysis to enhance strategic planning and decision-making while ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
Qualifications
- BS in Accounting is required.
- CPA is preferred.
- Minimum 8+ years of GAAP accounting experience.
- At least 6 years as an auditor in public accounting, non-profit preferred.
- At least 4 years of project management experience.
- Experience tracking metrics, data analysis and reporting.
- Prior experience working with non-profits, charter schools, or socially responsible organizations is preferred.
