Teachers agree to play a substantial role in conveying the Catholic Church's message and carrying out its mission.Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the successful substitute teacher will:
- Serve as a positive role model and support the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church at all times.
- Create a faith-focused learning environment within the classroom and school in which he or she serves.
- Create a Catholic culture in his or her classroom that is emphasized through the candidate's words, deeds, manner of dress, and actions.
- Facilitate student success and growth in both academics and interpersonal skills.
- Implement the absent teacher's written plans with fidelity, document student progress, activities, and outcomes as directed by the teacher.
- Leave detailed notes for the absent teacher.
- Utilize available technology to enhance lessons.
- Differentiate instruction to address specific educational needs of individual students.
- Create a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment.

- Serves as a model of the Catholic faith in words, actions, speech, dress, and demeanor.
- Develops and administers school curriculum consistent with the teacher's written plans.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
- Differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles and needs as per the teacher's directives.
- Conducts ongoing assessments of student learning as per the teacher's written plans.
- Conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matter specified in applicable laws, as well as in administrative regulations and procedures of the Diocese of Joliet.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and Diocesan policies.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Utilizes available technology to enhance instruction.
- Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation, student arrival, and student dismissal.
- Is of sound moral character.
- Understands and adheres to all principles and tenets of the Roman Catholic faith.
- Maintains a lifestyle that is in full accord with Church teachings.
- Seeks the advice and counsel of the principal and fellow educators as appropriate when dealing with classroom issues.

Education and Experience
- Holds a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a related discipline that is applicable to the teaching assignment.
- Licensure: The candidate must hold a current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL), a valid out of state certificate from a state with which Illinois has reciprocity, or a Substitute License. Also the candidate may be enrolled in an accredited program working toward professional licensure.
- Previous successful teaching experience in elementary and middle school grades PS - Grade 8 is preferred.
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills are essential to success.
- Practicing Catholic (preferred, required for religion teachers)
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently be required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, feel with hands, reach with arms, walk up or down multiple flights of stairs, and be physically able to perform duties as assigned, including the ability to lift up to 20-30 pounds if needed.
- Works in standard office and school building environments but also has ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.
