2024-25 Middle School Instructional Coach: HumanitiesBronx, New YorkAbout UsBrilla Public Charter Schools is a network of K-8th grade schools that currently serves 1,800 students from Mott Haven, University Heights, and other neighborhoods in the Bronx. The network is growing from its current four elementary and two middle schools to five elementary and five middle schools educating some 4,000 students in the Bronx and Paterson, NJ. Ours is a joyful community that honors the dignity of each student, our staff members, and the families we serve.Position OverviewThe Instructional Coach is a full-time leadership team member who supports teachers to align their instruction with the curricular and instructional vision of Brilla Schools and to attain school and network academic targets. Supervised by an Assistant Principal, the Instructional Coach serves as the content expert and planning authority for all of the literacy components in the school, ensuring vertical and horizontal alignment, high quality learning opportunities aligned to strategic priorities, and exceptional student performance and achievement across the content. Instructional Coaches develop the content knowledge and pedagogical techniques of teachers, ensuring that deep content knowledge and best instructional practice permeates the school (such as lesson plan internalization, assessment data, Blended Learning supplementation, and Intervention support). Instructional Coaches are sensitive to the interwoven relationship of academic and character formation and are attentive to ways to ensure mutual reinforcement of the intellectual and affective dimensions of learning. Instructional Coaches embrace the Classical approach to education and actively facilitate the adaptation of lesson plans and curricular resources to enrich the student encounter of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.This position requires a positive, flexible, solutions-oriented, organized, and reflective leader who can balance multiple roles and responsibilities with grace and virtue. Instructional Coaches work daily with teachers and in close collaboration with the Assistant Principal, Principal, and Brilla Network Academics Team to ensure that curricular materials are consistently adapted to meet the needs of teachers and the classroom. In addition to planning and coaching requirements, Instructional Coaches maintain materials inventories and requisitioning, attend regular content meetings, and actively deepen their own knowledge of content, standards, and Classical pedagogy. Brilla Instructional Coaches daily support teachers through active observation, live coaching and must have a deep appreciation for inductive, inquiry-driven, data-informed, student-engaged learning. They must offer as well as accept, implement, and seek feedback. They will manage multiple concurrent tasks and responsibilities, while inspiring outstanding achievement in a joyful, vigorous, and collaborative work environment.Core Competencies & ResponsibilitiesConduct daily classroom observations, live coaching and provide feedback to urgently develop teachers' instructional practiceOrganize and lead teacher development meetings, developing their content knowledge, data analysis, action planning, and pedagogical skillsCollaborate with Assistant Principal and Instructional Leadership Team to analyze assessment data and create targeted interventions for student academic goalsSupport teachers in achieving school-wide goals aligned with curriculum, pedagogy, and professional evaluation expectationsFacilitate professional development exercises and workshops on curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment cyclesManage assessment cycles, including scheduling, quality assurance, and preparationLead curriculum development aligned with New York State Next Generation standards, adapting materials as neededCoach teachers in literacy content knowledge and pedagogical practicesFoster positive relationships with school stakeholders and actively participate in school eventsEngage in ongoing professional development, collaborate with colleagues, and provide constructive feedback for continuous improvement in teaching methodologies and school culturePerform other duties, as assignedQualificationsPassionate commitment to Brilla Schools' educational mission and holistic child developmentEmbrace of Classical education principles with a focus on nurturing students' well-rounded growthBachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution, preferably in English/Language ArtsCurrent elementary school teaching certification and demonstrated teaching excellenceExperience in special education (preferred) and familiarity with Classical liberal arts educationProven track record in fostering outstanding student growth and coaching teachersStrong, diverse content knowledge across grade levels or subjectsDedication to character development in both children and adultsExceptional communication skills, both written and oral, and sensitivity to diverse backgroundsAnalytical mindset, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability in a fast-paced, collaborative environmentQualifying TasksPortfolio of demonstrated, consistent student achievementPortfolio of created unit plans and lesson plansFacilitation of Content Coaching Session or Feedback TaskThe base pay range for this position is $100,000-$123,806 per year in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
