ALVERT COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLSPrince Frederick, Maryland 20678POSITION: VolunteerLOCATION: TBDPOSITION SUMMARY: Volunteers assist Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) employees and supplement student services and learning opportunities. Volunteers are not paid staff members; however, they are expected to always follow CCPS policies, rules, and procedures. The CCPS Volunteer Handbook will provide pertinent information on the volunteer application, what training you need, CCPS guidelines and responsibilities, safety procedures and other helpful resources for volunteers.REPORTS TO: Principal or designeeKNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS: At the time of application, the candidate must have:
  • Demonstrated professionalism and dependability
  • Experience working with children, preferred
  • Ability to keep all information obtained through volunteering with CCPS confidential
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and appropriate decision making
  • Exceptional ability to understand and communicate with both verbal and written skills
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Demonstrate ethical conduct at all times.
  • Make every effort to perform volunteer duties in the presence of a CCPS employee, avoiding unsupervised, one-on-one student contact.
  • Report immediately to the school principal any expression or behavior that suggests an individual may intend to harm themselves, another person or commit an act of violence
  • Observe all CCPS policies, procedures, regulations, and school rules.
  • Maintain communication with your volunteer coordinator.
  • Perform clerical duties as required to maintain appropriate records
  • Conduct yourself with the highest standards of behavior and professionalism.
  • Ensures that all activities conform to school system guidelines
  • Thinks, concentrates, and positively interacts with others
  • OTHER DUTIES: Performs related work as required or assigned by the Principal and/or Activities Director.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position may require significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment.UNUSUAL DEMANDS: NoneTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Unpaid, volunteer positionFLSA STATUS: Not applicable.EVALUATION: Not applicable.EFFECTIVE DATE OF POSITION: On or after July 1, 2024APPLICATION PROCEDURE: All volunteers will go to the CCPS Become a Volunteer page to access the Online Volunteer Application Process. You will click the link to access the online volunteer training video and application.State law requires that anyone hired after October 1, 1986, who will have contact with school children, must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation. Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.House Bill 486 - Child Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct Prevention StatementPursuant to Section 6-113.2 of the Education Article, Annotated Code of Maryland - House Bill 486 - Child Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct Prevention, all applicants are required to report all former employment where direct contact with minors may have occurred. The applicant must submit the contact information of the current employer, all former school employers, and all former employers not school related.
