Overview

The Harper Book Group (includes the Harper, Harper Business, Harper Perennial and Harper Influence imprints) is seeking a Publicity Intern to join our team this summer. In this role you will work closely with a group of highly experienced publicists as they create and execute campaigns for books across a variety of categories, including literary and commercial fiction, memoir, narrative nonfiction, politics, lifestyle and more.

The Publicity Department plays a unique role in the life cycle of the book, working closely across internal departments as the book takes shape (editorial, sales, marketing, etc.), then interfacing with external partners responsible for getting the book into the hands of consumers (media outlets, influencers, bookstores). Throughout the process, Publicity works closely with the author to craft a compelling and successful launch campaign.

Responsibilities

* Performs general administrative duties, including processing mailings to media, influencers, and booksellers, and managing of internal databases

* Media research across platforms: Muckrack, Podchaser, social media, and more

* Pulls book assets from internal database

* Manage and create promotional materials such as press kits, author bios, and book summaries.

* Support Publicity Directors with select media outreach

* Maintain accurate records of all publicity efforts, data entry of media and event bookings

* Books travel for authors, and help organize and manage author media and tour schedules

* Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, processing invoices, and tracking expenses

* Attend internal meetings and select off-site author events

Qualifications

* As an integral part of our team, the Publicity intern will have the opportunity to develop their skills in a high-energy environment.

* The ideal candidate will be a creative self-starter with a passion for publicity and the book publishing industry

* Must have a desire to learn, grow, and be successful.

* Applicants must posses strong organizational and communication skills, be detail-oriented, exhibit good judgement, exercise discretion, and can juggle multiple tasks and prioritize.

* A strong knowledge of social media and current trends in the industry is a plus.

* The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced, team environment is essential.

* Candidates who are available to work in a full-time capacity in 2025 or 2026 are eligible for this internship; open to rising seniors, recent graduates, master's students, or entry level candidates with up to two years of work experience.

* Candidates must be available to work in our NYC office from Monday - Thursday for a total of 28 hours per week, from June 2 - August 7, 2025. Compensation for this internship is $18 per hour.
