TITLE: Medicine Clerk FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate. Minimum typing skills of 35 wpm. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (word processing, spreadsheet, and database). Must be able to communicate effectively. REPORTS TO: Principal DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Possesses responsibility for providing student care, administering ordered medications to the students, assisting, monitoring, administering treatments, responding to emergencies, maintaining student medical documents, and maintaining certifications.
- Establishes and maintains a variety of files and records.
- Inputs student health data in a timely, accurate and efficient manner.
- Trains under the CCS Health Services department and school nurses to organize and administer prescribed medications according to physician's instructions and established district procedures as directed.
- Monitors student side effects and notifies parents, appropriate personnel, and emergency services as warranted.
- Performs routine first aid and emergency treatment for ill and injured students consistent with district processes and procedures.
- Evaluates student illness or emergencies and follows the course of action determined by the physician and or care plan.
- Contacts parents or other responsible persons regarding ill or injured students and provides notifications to parent/guardian when medication needs and supplies are low or expended.
- May assist in cleaning and disinfecting the student health room.
- Monitors blood sugar and any other procedures necessary for individual student needs.
- Organizes student medications and first aid kits for field trips under the supervision of the school nurse.
- Communicates with school and district personnel, faculty, parents, students, and outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns.
- Provides kind and caring service.
- Collaborates with the school nurse on behalf of students.
- Understands medical requirements for the administration of emergency medications.
- Shifts focus quickly from one task to another.
- Orders health supplies from health services and maintains stock.
- Attends training and professional development meetings as required to develop and maintain skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in oral and written form regarding health matters.
- Must have finger dexterity and be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license. Applicant must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) when requested for purposes of driving a school bus.
