With a portfolio of comprehensive schools, small specialty schools, support schools, micro schools, magnet programs, and extensive Career & Technical Education (CTE) offerings, PXU's schools of opportunity welcome, love, and inspire all students to go places and do things that matter GRADE 7 STARTING HOURLY RATE: $20.85 - $21.81 (PLACEMENT DEPENDS ON SIMILAR EXPERIENCE HELD AND EDUCATION) SUMMARY: The Vehicle Service Worker performs routine maintenance and safety checks on the District's fleet, and routinely drives a bus on regular routes in order to transport students who require specialized transportation being transported. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs preventive and routine maintenance on the District's fleet (e.g., buses, cars, light duty trucks, medium-duty trucks and vans); maintains fuel and oil at proper operating levels. Reports necessary mechanical repairs to Transportation Director or designee. Inspects all buses daily, prior to use insure that all safety and special equipment is working properly. Drives bus on scheduled routes, special trips and field trips as needed and maintain order at all times. Provides first aid assistance as needed. Assists students being transported. Changes tires and repairs flats; charges batteries. Performs emission tests. Orders and stocks parts for the shop; make trips to pick up parts. Maintains maintenance and service records. Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned. Must possess, or obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) with all endorsements and certifications required by local, state and federal authorities to maintain and operate any vehicle in the District's fleet (e.g., State of Arizona P and S endorsements within 45 work days of hiring. State of Arizona School Bus Driver Certification. Must obtain Level 1 IVP fingerprint clearance card within 45 work days of hiring. Maintain a current Red Cross First Aid certificate and CPR certificate.IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Ability to interact and relate to students who require specialized transportation. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Ability to maintain shop repair records. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Physical ability to perform all of the essential functions of the position (e.g., the ability to stand, turn, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, lift, push, and pull heavy objects such as school bus tires.). Sufficient vision and hearing to perform the essential functions of the position. Work occurs indoors and outdoors and requires exposure to various weather conditions.
