The mission of PUSD's Farm to School (F2S) program is to provide garden-based experiences to ignite students' love of learning, build skills to sustainably grow food, improve environmental literacy, develop lifelong healthy habits and cultivate community partnerships with farm-based organizations. The AmeriCorps VISTA Member will work with the F2S Coordinator to maintain and implement programming in all nine school garden sites. Duties include organizing teams to help maintain and expand school garden sites, assist with the organization and facilitation of volunteer work parties and other F2S events, writing grants, perform evaluations and collect data on the success of the F2S programs, as well as assist and model activities in the garden during the school day and after-school garden clubs. Member Duties : Project Implementation: The AmeriCorps VISTA member will improve the capacity of the school garden program for community volunteers, and the AmeriCorps Garden Specialist team to maintain & improve 10 school gardens. The AmeriCorps VISTA member will assist with writing grants and seeking community donations to sustain and expand the Farm-to-School program. The AmeriCorps VISTA member will create a system for tracking inventory and identifing supply expenditures. B. Events: The AmeriCorps VISTA member will assist in organizing and planning annual Farm-to-School events such as cafeteria taste tests, the wellness fair, pop-up markets, school garden fundraisers, parent-engagement events, garden work parties with the community, and staff professional development workshops.
