The Department of Nursing invites applicants for a Full-time, Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Maternal-Newborn Nursing position. The Department of Nursing is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and approved by the State Board of Nursing of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Department faculty members balance excellent teaching with active scholarship. The faculty position involves teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses that may be offered in-person and/or via distance education modalities with a focus on acute and chronic care of birthing parents and newborn population. The faculty member will contribute to the design and implementation of the maternal-newborn nursing curriculum. The incumbent will demonstrate attention to the learning and teaching needs of the students. The faculty will collaborate with other departmental and college faculty & staff to ensure student success. The appointment will include working with affiliated agencies and clinical partners which will necessitate satisfying contractual obligations such as health requirements, physical guidelines, clinical hours, codes of conduct, and so on. The typical course load involves teaching twelve credits per semester.Responsibilities include:
  • Contribute to the instructional program in the traditional and second-degree nursing program
  • Didactic and clinical teaching in maternal-newborn nursing within acute care environments
  • Maintain an active research agenda
  • Demonstrate continuing scholarly growth compatible with the teacher-scholar model
  • Serve the College, University, and the community through participation in various committees
  • Advise and mentor students
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Nursing
  • Evidence of matriculation and significant progress in a doctoral program of study with an expectation that the terminal degree must be completed by the end of year two of appointment (August 2027)
  • Eligibility for RN licensure in Pennsylvania with verification of licensure required at the start of employment
  • At least 2 years of system-based experience in maternal-newborn nursing practice
  • Ability to meet the requirements of contractual affiliation agreements with clinical partners. This may include, but is not limited to, health requirements, physical guidelines, clinical hours
Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in nursing or related field. Degree will be considered - must be completed the end of year two of appointment by August 2027; and/or
  • Didactic teaching experience; and/or
  • At least 2 years of recent clinical experience teaching maternal-newborn courses/curriculum; and/or
  • At least 2 years of recent clinical experience teaching undergraduate pre-licensure nursing students; and/or
  • At least 2 years of clinical experience in maternal-newborn nursing practice; and/or
  • Teaching experience with learning management systems such as Blackboard, D2L, Canvas, and so on; and/or
  • Teaching experience with adult learners and distance education technology within person and online teaching formats
