Job OverviewThe Food Safety and Quality Assurance Specialist will support the implementation of procedures, to ensure compliance with local, federal and industry regulations and certifications. The FSQA Specialist will facilitate the completion of scheduled work flows identified in the FSP and QMS programs, as a Qualified Individual.Job ResponsibilitiesConduct checks and verifications in the effort to ensure raw materials and packaged products meet GLC and customer specifications.Support the product hold and release program by completing investigations to aid in identification of scope and disposition.Logging of customer complaints and gathering of data to facilitate investigations.Conduct GMP, Food Safety and Glass & Brittle Plastic inspections.Maintain inventory of lab supplies.Conduct material traces and mock exercises.Support Technician tasks and programs.Complete positive release.Lead and attend cross-departmental meetings.Support the sensory evaluation program based on developed procedure. Communicate with plant FSQA on concerns and participate in resolutions.Participate in evaluation of laboratory and operational processes and employees to drive continuous improvement on issues relating to the food safety and quality programs.Motivate and lead by example.All GLC employees are expected to perform any assignment or job task according to the stated safety policies and proceduresAll GLC employees are expected to produce our products in a manner that exceeds the quality and value expectation of our customers and consumers by adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices, Policies and Procedures outlined in our Safe Quality Food Program.Other responsibilities as assigned by plant FSQA leadership.Maintain company confidentiality.The pay for this position is $25.95-$26.95. All offers will be based on a candidate's skills, prior relevant experience, applicable degrees and certifications, and internal equity. This range is specific to New York and may not be applicable to other locations.Required Education and ExperienceAssociate's degree in Food Science or related field, or commensurate experience.2 years of lab experience or more.Understanding of physical processes relating to cheese and packaging quality.Ability to make sound, independent decisions based on functional expertise and experienceAbility to administer a proactive management approach.Ability to provide leadership, support, communication and direction to lab technicians, as well as other personnel.Basic Computer skills.Proficient in Microsoft Office.Preferred Education and ExperienceSAP experience.HACCP Certification.Working Conditions• Hair nets, ear plugs/muffs, hardhats, and/or safety glasses may be required.• Occasional exposure to industrial operations including: temperature extremes from approximately 35ºF to 100ºF; noise levels in excess of 85 dB; moisture and moving machinery.• Ability to constantly stand/walk; bend/flex/extend neck; frequently grip/reach/lift/pull with L/R hands.• Work is performed in a lab setting.• Work in a fast-paced production environment with average temperature of 60-80 degrees F.EEOC & DisclaimerGreat Lakes Cheese is an Equal Opportunity Affirmative Action Employer.
