Position Overview:
The 3D Printing Technician is responsible for the setup, operation, maintenance, and post-processing of DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering) parts. This role also involves troubleshooting equipment issues, recommending solutions, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. DMLS is an advanced additive manufacturing process where a fiber optic laser is used to melt metal powder, fusing it into solid parts from 3D models.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
● Set up and operate DMLS machines and related tools, including daily maintenance tasks.
● Perform general shop duties, including DMLS machine setup, powder sieving, machine clean-out, and material changes.
● Order and maintain stock of all DMLS machine consumables
● Develop, update, and document work instructions, best practices, and production methodologies for DMLS technologies.
● Train other team members on internal processes and procedures.
● Work with the Engineering and Sales teams to create a print schedule.
● Work with Shipping team to ensure delivery deadlines are met
● Identify, troubleshoot, and recommend solutions for process, material, or equipment problems to minimize downtime.
● Complete and document routine maintenance on DMLS equipment.
● Assist with failure analysis, troubleshooting, and rework of non-conforming products to determine root cause.
● Comply with safety requirements and maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
● Work with Building Management to facilitate hazmat removal by external vendors
● Participate in required training, safety, and health programs.
● Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas.
● Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills:
● Experience operating a DMLS machine
● Experience operating an EOS M290 DMLS machine is preferred, but not required
● Proficiency with Fusion 360 CAD software, or similar
● Experience with Materialize Magics software is preferred, but not required
● Proficient in using precision measuring instruments, test equipment, and other relevant devices.
● Strong attention to detail, ensuring tasks follow standard operating procedures and reporting any anomalies.
● Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
● Effective written and oral communication skills, able to express technical concepts clearly.
● Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills.
● Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, continuously developing new skills to meet evolving job requirements.
● Proven ability to prioritize and manage tasks independently under pressure.
● Ability to read and interpret charts, tables, drawings, specifications, and schedules.
Experience & Education:
● Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred but not required
● Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
● Demonstrated ability to proactively solve problems and streamline operations with minimal supervision.
