Job OverviewThe Food Safety and Quality Manager manages the development, training, and coordination of activities around SQF, quality systems, and vendor CAPA programs through interpretation, identification, and audit programs and policies to ensure they are aligned with current and future SQF codes. This position will develop facility specific food safety, sanitation, and quality assurance policies and programs that ensure Biery Cheese products are manufactured consistently and in accordance with corporate direction and initiatives, customer initiatives and expectations, and regulatory and SQF standards. The Food Safety and Quality Manager will partner closely with the Operations, Production Quality, Procurement, and Vendor Teams to ensure CAPA plans are implemented and effective.This position is back-up by Quality Supervisor and or Director of Quality.Essential Accountabilities
- Be the Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Subject Matter Expert and ensure business policy and procedure are aligned with current revision of the code
- Manage Vendor and established ingredient risk assessments including but not limited to trace gains review, on site or virtual audits, and document review.
- Act as the Functions Tracegains subject matter expert and trainer.
- Works with Commercialization, Sales, and Purchasing to ensure all vendor required paperwork is received or uploaded in Tracegains.
- Works with Quality Manager to identify, communicate, and evaluate vendors and/or material issues identified at the facility.
- Works with Quality Manager to develop the review and approval of policies and programs for all raw materials and finished products used or produced at the facility.
- Works cross-functionally to identify, communicate, and evaluate vendors and/or material issues identified at the facility, audits, and CAPA follow-up.
- Be the Function's Subject Matter Expert on the Redzone system
- Help standardize, build, adjust, manage the Redzone quality system, checks, triggers, and CAPAs
- Act as the Functions Internal Audit Subject Matter Expert
- Schedule, conduct, and execute an internal audit program
- Establish internal audit expectations and verification activities to ensure facility is compliant to code and goals
- Verifies proper implementation, execution, and accountability for all food safety, quality, and sanitation programs utilized at the facility.
- Works with Commercialization and Operations to conduct and manage new ingredient and R&D risk assessments.
- Works with facility Quality Manager to map out quality processes and document functional ownership.
- Leads, develops, advises on, and coordinates continuous improvement initiatives for quality, food safety, and food defense.
- Provide leadership to Quality and foster positive employee relations throughout the organization.

Requirements• Preferred 4 yr. science related degree with at least 2 years of experience in Quality Assurance and/or Food Science/Manufacturing. • Skills to provide guidance including leading teams, problem solving, tenacity and integrity.• Must be able to multi-task and prioritize the completion of tasks with respect to importance/ deadlines• Must understand HACCP/FSMA and the key components of a HACCP/FSMA program• Must be able to work independently and work efficiently with little or no supervision• Ability to research and interpret trends and potential compliance risks.• Ability to collect, analyze and present facts in written and oral communication• Understand statistical process control (SPC) concepts and tools• Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.• Strong technical expertise in food safety, regulatory compliance, USDA, FDA, HACCP/FSMA, SQF and GMPs• Preferred FMSA certified Work EnvironmentWork environment involves moderate risks or discomforts which may require special safety precautions working around moving machines in production facilities, Protective clothing or gear such as goggles, gloves and shoes may be required. Must be able to work in a cold environment.Physical DemandsWork requires some physical strain such as long periods standing and walking in production facility and lifting of moderately heavy items such as test equipment kits and product cases. Other physical demands include climbing, crouching, and reaching.
