Position Type: Temporary Worker/TemporaryDate Posted: 5/20/2024Location: District Wide PoolJOB TITLE: Virtual School Instructor DUTY DAYS: Varies PAY GRADE: Extra duty stipend plus per student rate SALARY SCHEDULE: Varies based on enrollment PRIMARY PURPOSE: The purpose of Virtual School Instructor position within the Pasadena Virtual School (PVS) is to provide students in the virtual course with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. QUALIFICATIONS: Certification/Education:
- Bachelor's degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject/level assigned
- Valid Web Instructor Course Certification as required by the Texas Virtual School Network (preferred, may be obtained after placement)
- At least 3 years teaching experience in a Texas public school
- Online teaching experience preferred
Special Knowledge/ Skills/Experience:
- Knowledge of subject assigned
- Knowledge of effective online instructional methods
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior in a virtual setting
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to resolve technical issues that arise
- Ability to use a Learning Management System to effectively teach online
- Proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, e-mail, internet browser, video capture, and others as they pertain to the online classroom.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Implement and maintain the integrity of the online course, as written. Assess student learning styles and interests and accommodate individual student needs. Stay current with digital trends to vary instruction and maintain student engagement in the virtual classroom. Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required. Communicate with students, parent contacts, PVS instructors and PVS supervisors in a timely manner. Adhere to PVS schedules for grade reporting, class implementation and exam schedule. Stay in regular contact with students throughout the course to ensure proper engagement. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning where students understand and utilize the rules of netiquette and internet safety. Participate in online instructor professional development and PVS meetings. Maintain all reports, records, and other required documents. Willingness to work during non-school hours to administer final exams, telephone students, conduct online synchronous sessions, answer emails, and maintain regular office hours to be available to online students. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands:
