Pima Animal Care Center is the open-admissions animal shelter for Tucson and Pima County, taking in around 20,000 pets each year and providing a full range of animal services covering a 9,000-square-mile area. The Animal Care Assistant I position is an administrative role assisting our Pet Resource and Licensing team. Our Pet Resource and Licensing team answers a high call volume by assisting customers on the phone, via email, and in person. This position is heavily customer service focused and helps problem-solve challenges local pet owners experience; including evictions, financial hardship, animal behavioral challenges, and owner surrenders. Though mainly administrative, this position will interact with both dogs and cats being surrendered to the shelter; and may assist the intake team with vaccines and kennel cleaning.   • Handles a high volume of live calls with members of the public while also monitoring and maintaining multiple voicemail inboxes;
  • Responds to public and staff inquiries via phone or email and provides information to resolve problems in regards to pet ownership or various crisis situations;
  • Maintains specialized databases, inputs and retrieves data while also keeping thorough records;
  • Demonstrates exemplary customer service;
  • Coordinates, schedules and manages appointments on behalf of community members needing to surrender their pet's to PACC;
  • Coordinates and communicates program activities with other units within the department;
  • Approves and distributes grant funding on behalf of qualifying applicants for services provided by partnered organizations or businesses;
  • May act as program/department representative at community events providing various program resources and information to pet owner's facing hardships;
  • May train new employees.
Minimum QualificationsA high school diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) certificate.   • Experience in customer service.
  • Experience in a call center environment.
  • Experience with data entry.
  • Experience working, volunteering, or interning in an animal shelter, boarding facility, or other relevant animal care setting.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Supplemental Information Licenses and Certificates: Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application. Failure to maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination. Special Notice Items: Completion of a rabies vaccination cycle is required within two (2) months of hire. Medical inability to be immunized or previous immunization must be verified by the County Physician prior to employment. Recommended boosters are required for the duration of employment, unless medically excused or physiologically unable to develop immunity. The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Physical/Sensory Requirements: Post-job offer physical and drug screen.Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment and headset. Frequently remains in a stationary position.
