Job Title: Teacher/CoachReports to: Principal and Athletic DirectorPrimary Purpose:Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth potential. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Provide students with appropriate distance or virtual instruction in the academic subject area assigned to help students fulfill their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth potential.Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in assigned sport(s). Contribute to the education program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athleticsQualifications: Education/Certification:Bachelor's degree from an accredited universityValid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assignedDemonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assignedCurrent automated external defibrillator (AED) certificateClear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (can be obtained through FSISD)Special Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of core academic subject assignedKnowledge of curriculum and instructionAbility to instruct students and manage their behaviorStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of coaching techniques and proceduresKnowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rulesAbility to instruct and supervise student-athletesAbility to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical (include if bus driving duties are required)Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsExperience:At least one-year student teaching or approved internshipMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district's curriculum program requirements and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect an understanding of students' learning styles and needs and present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Conduct an assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and assign work to the instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans and activities through distance or virtual learning to fulfill the district's curriculum program requirements and show written evidence of preparation, as required.
  • Prepare lessons in instructional formats that accommodate differences in individual student needs.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and resources for distance or virtual learning that reflect an understanding of assigned students' learning styles and needs according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Use various instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student-athletes in the sport assigned.
  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
  • Work with other school staff members to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student-athletes.
  • Student Growth and Development
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model for students; support the mission of the school district.
  • Provide ongoing feedback of student achievement through formal and informal methods.

  • Student Management
  • Accompany and supervise student-athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports both at home and on out-of-town trips.
  • Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
  • Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the Student Handbook.
  • Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
  • Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the Student Handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Create a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Program Management
  • Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis: model performance criteria and physical movements required for successful student performance of the sport.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Work with the athletic director to schedule competitions and plan season activities, including special events and tournaments.
  • Coordinate with the transportation department for travel arrangements to out-of-town events-Drive bus to transport students to out-of-district competitions.
  • Ensure compliance with all UIL rules.
  • Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the coaching program and make changes based on findings.
  • Communication
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents. The rest of the workday is committed to planning, preparing, implementing, and evaluating lessons and activities.
  • Communicate with students or parents a minimum of 2 time(s) per week via phone, email, or virtual device.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Administration
  • Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Initiate and approve purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies.
  • Oversee cleaning, repair, and store all campus athletic equipment and maintain a current inventory of all equipment and fixed assets within the program.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s). Assign and oversee the completion of the work of assistant coaches and student athletic assistants.Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; [P.E. teachers: automated external defibrillator (AED)] Personal computer, phone system, video/instructional equipment, and peripherals.
