Under general supervision, answers emergency and non-emergency calls coming into the dispatch center for Police, Fire, Medical, Animal Control, and/or City Services.
* This position performs duties deemed to be safety-sensitive and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City's policies*
* Answers incoming emergency calls, obtaining vital information so that responders can provide fast and efficient service.
* Uses calming techniques to keep callers calm and on the line, ensuring they are safe, and gathering pertinent information and scene safety issues, related to the call for responding emergency personnel as they are driving to the caller's location.
* Assists callers asking for medical assistance through patient assessment questions to determine the priority level for responding medical personnel, or to gather scene safety information for responding officers, and descriptions of who/what they are looking for as they are responding to the call.
* Answers incoming non-emergency calls, assisting citizens and if need be, directing them to who they need to speak with.
* Enters CAD calls for service (Police Department, Fire Department, EMS, Animal Control and Public Works).
* Communicates with co-workers dispatching calls to officers on the radio, if there is an immediate threat to the responding personnel, or information that is asked by officers as they respond to calls.
* Answers calls from officers and surrounding agencies needing wrecker services and running checks for local warrants.
* Trains new employees.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by one to two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of APCO, FEMA training on NIMS, OLETS / NCIC, EMD, CPR and First Aid Certifications, preferred.
Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of balancing, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, walking and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
