    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
    • Must complete Police Department Background Packet
    • Must be able to pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background screening.
    • Must be able to pass a polygraph.
    • Must be able to pass a psychological exam.
    Preferred:
    • Customer service or computer experience
    • Valid Texas Driver's License
    Required Certifications:
    • A variety of technical training and certifications are required including:
      • CPR Certified within one year of hire.
      • Basic Telecommunicator License from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) within one year of hire.
      • National/Texas Crime Information Centers (NCIC/TCIC) and Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) within six months from date of hire.
      • Depending on the needs of the City, additional licenses and certifications may be required.
    Must be available to work varying shifts, including but not limited to Nights, Weekends, Holidays, and Overtime
    • HOURS: Workdays & Hours: Rotating Shifts & Off Days*
      • Off days subject to change. Will rotate shifts during training.
        • 6:30am - 2:30pm
        • 2:30pm - 10:30pm
        • 10:30pm - 06:30am
        • Or as Assigned
  • MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK ANY OF THESE SHIFTS. YOU WILL NOT HAVE A PREFERENCE IN PICKING YOUR SHIFT
  • All positions in the City of Waco Police Communications Department are designated as Essential (First Responder) Employees and will require you to work long hours in emergency or disaster stations that may require you to be away from your home and/or family for extended periods of time.
  • Additional Requirements: ALL APPLICANTS Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required. Applicant must meet CJIS requirements related to system access. By applying for this job, you are subject to a state and national criminal history check of the following:
    • Felony Convictions
    • Felony Deferred Adjudication
    • Class A & B Misdemeanor Convictions
    • Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication
    • Any open arrest for any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor)

    Position Overview: Under basic supervision, answers emergency and non-emergency calls for service; takes information from callers and enters information into computer database; including dispatching units for both the City of Waco and McLennan County residents. Provides assistance and information to Waco Police Department (WPD) & McLennan County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) emergency services agencies and general public.     10 I AM ABLE TO HANDLE HIGHLY STRESSFUL SITUATIONS. A 911 Telecommunicators job can be emotionally stressful. In order to be successful as a 911 Telecommunicator, employees must be able to hear Emergency/Traumatic type problems and remain focused and be able to perform their duties competently and calmly. They must have coping skills and be able process the trauma they may have been exposed to, and still maintain a positive and healthy work attitude. Are you able to do this?
