GENERAL PURPOSE:Provides comprehensive academic advising to a dynamic and diverse body of undergraduate students in the College Center for Advising Services (CCAS); advises students on academic matters including program planning, goal setting, academic progress, policies and procedures; refers students to faculty and other offices for specialized assistance. CCAS strives to encourage and celebrate an inclusive environment that is open, welcoming and supportive of staff of all backgrounds and experiences.The Academic Advisor manages an assigned caseload of advisees over a four-year period from matriculation to graduation. Provides advisement and support about course planning, educational goals, career aspirations, college policies, and opportunities for engaging in campus life. Encourages exploration and actively supports participation in experiential learning. Communicates regularly with students about upcoming activities and deadlines. Refers students to other offices and resources including faculty advisors and academic support services. Guides students through the major declaration process, answers general questions regarding financial aid, and monitors progress toward the degree. Proactively assists students who are experiencing academic difficulties and navigates policies relating to academic probation and leave of absence. Participates in ongoing training and professional development opportunities as a member of the larger College Advisor community on campus.**NOTE: A cover letter and resume are required for consideration for this position. The cover letter should address your specific interest in the position and describe the skills and experience that directly relate to this position.****RESPONSIBILITIES:****Advises and assists undergraduate students in formulating their academic objectives, in selecting their academic programs and in monitoring progress toward meeting graduation requirements. Maintains current knowledge of** **College** **policies, Rochester Curriculum, academic programs, and policies and procedures.**+ Advises a caseload of assigned undergraduate students in Arts and Sciences and provides information about program planning, academic resources, special academic opportunities, rules and policies, financial aid, and graduation requirements.+ Guides students on the development of four-year academic plans and connects students to academic and career development experiences and opportunities such as study abroad, undergraduate research, internships, and co-curricular activities.+ Effectively communicates, presents, and explains policies and procedures to students, parents, colleagues and other stakeholders in one on one meetings and in group settings+ Provides support to students in academic difficulty and serves as a primary resource for students placed on academic probation.+ Connects students with faculty to explore academic interests and opportunities.+ Participates in fall & spring Academic Action process+ Meets with students through individual appointments, and group advising, both in person and on a remote basis.+ Assists with outreach to students who are on a leave of absence and whose degree requirements are incomplete.+ Serves on committees such as the Probation Committee, Sophomore Committee, First-Generation Committee, Early Connection Opportunity, Basic Needs Hub, Academic Planning, and Transfer Student Committee. Specific assignments are based on office needs.**Special Projects - Supporting Academic Advising Initiatives** **(20%)**+ The special projects are aimed at enhancing academic advising initiatives. These projects may include, but are not limited to, supporting transfer student advising initiatives, retention and graduation programs, and support for two fifth-year enrichment programs. Additionally, the advisor may support project development and coordination, create resources to improve student success, foster collaboration across departments, and contribute to academic enrichment efforts.
