We live by our mission to employ the core values of excellence, innovation, inclusion, and respect to educate future nurses, advance nursing science, and implement evidence-based clinical practice to improve health and wellness.POSITION SUMMARY:This position will monitor students' academic progress and make recommendations and referrals through frequent student meetings, update and maintain students' degree audits, assist with students' admissions and registration procedures, provide guidance in course selections, and evaluate transcripts.Additional duties involve participating in college orientation and course placement initiatives, and retention programs. An Academic Advisor II is expected to possess extensive knowledge about academic programs, policies, procedures, and student support services within the scope of their responsibilities. This position is expected to work closely with other Academic Advisors, Academic Admission Recruiters, Academic Svc. Administrators and other staff and faculty as appropriate under the leadership of the Assistant Director of Advising. The successful candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills; will possess the ability to effectively work with a diverse group of individuals; and will possess an understanding of the academic, social, and personal challenges that current and perspective students may face.RESPONSIBILITIES:Academic Advising: Conducts advising sessions, including new student orientations, one on-one advising sessions, flipped group advising sessions, and/or student information sessions. Conducts advising sessions in person, via phone/email, and through distance technologies. Evaluate, advise, counsels, and assists students, providing clear and accurate information on matters concerning academic policies and procedures for the application and admissions processes and their academic plan. Resolves registration issues, permit issues, and/or academic holds with college and campus departments.Ensure incoming and current students across the College of Nursing with academic requirements, appropriate class selection, academic policies and procedures, and campus resources. Creates and adjusts student?s program plans and tracks the assigned student?s progress each semester. Reviews academic records for progression and eligibility for graduate as needed. Maintain advising records and confidential student evaluation records. Monitors student progression and updates the reports each semester. Assists students with petitioning when dismissed from the college for progression violations. Completes degree certification and degree verification.Maintains logs for university and college reporting to include and ensure student electronic files and records are accurate, updating rosters, vendor, student cohorts spreadsheets containing progression changes, dismissals, etc. Utilizes a variety of systems including DegreeWorks, Banner, Archivum etc. to access student records, manage holds, issue permits. Maintains accurate student records and advising notes.Participates in professional associations that support advising. Monitors student registration and progression and sends outreach. Compiles data including retention rates, advising numbers and other requests as needed.Keeps up to date with requirements and academic policy. Works with staff, faculty, and administration within the college, and with university offices and services to facilitate the needs of students. Attends meetings to keep abreast of university policies and procedures to maintain academic compliance for all levels. Ensures adherence to all university and college policies, student privacy/ confidentiality and FERPA.Work with other programs to coordinate student success programs (ex. Supports the College of Nursing Living Learning Community). Collaborates with College of Nursing to represent the college at recruitment events and participate in strategic outreach initiatives. Supports the onboarding of new admitted students by updating the onboarding requirements, notifying students of outstanding requirements, and presenting at orientation. Assists with collegewide and WELL activities and events (i.e. new student orientations, commencement, Week of Welcome, etc.) that support the mission of the Office of Student Affairs.Performs other duties as assigned.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:MINIMUM:This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling or academic field directly related to the Advisor's specific responsibilities with two years of experience in advising or related academic functions within higher education. Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelor's degree requirement for this position.PREFERRED:Masters degree in counseling, education, or the academic field. Strong writing, analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to exercise sound judgment and employ decision-making skills. Ability to evaluate student transcripts and/or records. Ability to communicate to students curricular and graduate requirements. Ability to analyze, summarize and effectively present data. Proficiency with PowerPoint, Excel, and experience working with other student information system such as Banner.
