  • Contribute to the work of the Burton Center for Student Success (BCSS) team by welcoming First-year students, building course schedules, and participating in Admissions-hosted events such as: New Student Orientation, Move-in, Open House, etc.
  • Maintain a caseload of First-Year advisees and Second-Year students and keep precise and up-to-date records of student academic progress, student correspondence, and meeting content
  • Conduct regular meetings with advisees to track progress
  • Advise students regarding paths toward Major Declaration
  • Assist students in General Education course registration and scheduling
  • Effectively communicate institutional standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress
  • Provide academic coaching for advisees experiencing difficulty in coursework or generalized life challenges that might interrupt degree completion
  • Collaborate with the Director of First Year Experience and the office of New Student Engagement to establish communication with incoming students
  • Build schedules for incoming students prior to the Fall and Spring semesters
  • Assist in the production of an annual report and improvement plan for the Academic Advising Center within BCSS
Tutoring Center Responsibilities
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise (subject-area) peer tutors as needed to staff the BCSS
  • Maintain detailed usage data for the BCSS
  • Maintain performance records for each peer tutor
  • Produce assessment report and improvement plan for the BCSS Peer tutoring services
Teaching Responsibilities
  • Teach a 4/3 course load including:
    • Four sections of the Lees-McRae College First-Year Seminar (CLA-199) during Fall semester
    • One section of Peer Tutor Training (CLA-351) in Spring semester
    • Up to two sections of courses in the General Education Curriculum in Spring semester
  • Provide individualized academic coaching to students enrolled in CLA-199 to ensure their academic success and major
  • Provide individualized and proactive academic advising to students enrolled in CLA-199
  • Support the First-Year Experience Student Learning Outcome of Developing Personal Accountability
General
  • Assist in coordinating testing accommodation services for students
  • Adhere to the responsibilities and expectations of the LMC Faculty and Employee Handbooks

Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position is responsible for supervising fewer than 20 student employees of the BCSS.Work EnvironmentNormal office environment where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise and the like.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position with faculty rank. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional weekend work may be required for events such as Orientation, Open House, Bobcat Day, etc.TravelNo travel is expected for this position.Required Qualifications Required Education and Experience
  • Eighteen hours successful progress toward Master's in Education, Psychology, or a related field with the expectation to complete degree within two years
  • Two years' experience providing classroom instruction and academic advising/academic coaching services at the college-level
  • Knowledge of database software Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and the desire to expand knowledge as necessary for position
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong and consistent attention to detail
  • Effective listening skills
  • The ability to work with a diverse group of students, other faculty, staff, and administrators
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues
Preferred Qualifications Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master's in Education, Psychology, or other relevant field.
  • Five years' experience providing instruction and academic advising/academic coaching services at the college-level
