The College of Architecture, Arts and Design is seeking a full-time professional academic advisor to join our team of experienced academic advisors who assist undergraduate students in achieving their academic and professional goals. This advising position in the School of Design is responsible for providing academic and career advising services services to students in the school's three undergraduate majors: Industrial Design, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture and the school's three minors: Industrial Design, Landscape Architecture, and Design + Technology + Creative Expression, with an expected average caseload of 200 total student advisees. Each of our professional academic advisors are responsible for maintaining relevant student files and records and delivering accurate information and advice to students about majors, minors, course options, study abroad, transfer credits, internships, careers, and extracurricular activities. As a professional academic advisor, the position will utilize analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills to monitor the academic progress of students and initiate academic intervention for students in academic difficulty and as challenging situations arise, facilitate engaging advising events, programs and workshops, support enrollment management with a focus on retention, assist with advising assessment, and develop training materials and presentations. In addition, this position serves as a liaison to other offices at Virginia Tech and will assist with new student orientation and commencement.

On rare occasions, evening/weekend work may be required.

Required Qualifications

* Master's Degree in student development, education, counseling, or a related field OR a bachelor's degree with relevant experience

* Experience working with a diverse body of students in an educational setting

* Exceptional written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to develop and deliver public presentations with confidence

* Ability to multi-task with a changing environment and adapt to changing situations.

* Excellent organizational and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience using advising technologies for student intervention and appointment scheduling such as NAVIGATE.

* Experience using student information systems (BANNER).

* Member of NACADA or like professional organization.
