Job DescriptionSUMMARY:Reporting to the Director of Teacher Education Advisement and Retention, the Academic Advisor provides a range of support services to approximately 500 undergraduate students in the Department of Educational Foundations and prospective students. This includes advising new first-year and transfer students regarding general education and major requirements, major electives, and course sequencing. The advisor works in collaboration with other professional staff in the Educational Foundations department and throughout the college to provide services related to student enrollment, academic advising, retention, and support.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Assist in the execution of comprehensive and holistic academic advising programs that address the needs and promote academic success of undergraduate students.
- Provide academic advising for current and prospective students, including transactional advising about course selection, developmental advising about personal, career, and major choices, intrusive advising for at-risk students, and academic coaching.
- Establish timelines for student outreach and follow-up.
- Process all materials and communications in connection with undergraduate students, including change of major/minor, credit adjustments, and other student action forms.
- Help Educational Foundations students understand and successfully negotiate college and university processes, procedures, policies and regulations.
- Partner with Teacher Education program staff to adequately advise and support EDFD students.
- Engage in advisement/registration activities for the Fall, Spring, Winter, and Summer Sessions.
- Learn and fully utilize information technology related to student services, including Banner, Degree Works, and Navigate.
- Participate in campus-wide Open House programs, Accepted Student Days, Transfer Orientations, and New Student Orientations, and conduct presentations as necessary.
- Establish, nurture, and maintain relationships with students, staff, advisors and faculty throughout the campus community in order to provide student referrals, as necessary, to Career Services, CAPS, and other necessary cross-campus offices and services.
- Coordinate efforts with the college and/or CEEL Office for Career Development and Success to establish pathways to success for students in the department.
- Develop and deliver classroom presentations about academic policies and registration information.
- Assist with enrollment management and non-registration outreach.
- Maintain currency in the theory and practice of Academic Advising.
- Conduct and coordinate intrusive advising for students on academic probation, as needed.
- Represent the college and university at meetings and events, as needed.
- Properly document and maintain essential records and files as needed.
- Refer students to available resources as needed and partner with different departments to stay up to date with programs and resources that would best assist and serve the campus community/ advisees.
- Formulate materials for publication that would assist students in an efficient manner.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED: - Master's degree from an accredited university in a relevant field.
- Minimum three (3) years of professional experience providing academic advisement to students in a higher education setting.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with enterprise applications and software.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, diverse, working environment.
PREFERRED:
- Master's degree in counseling, social work, or higher education administration.
- Understanding of non-traditional student populations.
- Familiarity with Banner, Degree Works, and Navigate systems.
- Familiarity with NJ two-year institutions, community college articulation, and dual-enrollment programs.
- Experience presenting and/or teaching at the college level.
- Familiarity with and experience working on student success initiatives.
- Bilingual with the ability to effectively communicate in Spanish.
