POSITION SUMMARY
The Academic Advisor assists Freshmen/undeclared students in the development of academic schedules appropriate for their stated educational goals, guides pre-majors in the selection of academic majors, and directs students to resources within the University that aid in making career/academic major choices, as appropriate.
The Academic Advisor develops, implements, and supports the daily delivery of services to participants and is responsible for the maintenance of assigned participant records, evaluation of assigned participant activities, and preparation of reports related to assigned participants. The Academic Advisor also assists the Student Retention Coordinator in advising students who are on academic probation, warning and suspension. The Academic Advisor also serves as a liaison to the academic support personnel for the athletic department.
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
* Attend onboarding and orientation prior to the start of the summer, fall, and spring sessions
* Provide targeted academic support, which may include subject-specific advising and academic success workshops
* Oversee the success of approximately 150-200 students via academic advising, goal setting, outreach, and programming support
* Embed and model habits that impact academic achievement (including organization, time management, self-advocacy, growth mindset, and study habits)
* Plan lessons and be knowledgeable of engaging, skill-building activities and tools for First Year Experience
* Manage a classroom setting of 10-20 students
* Participate in weekly professional development and meetings to discuss student needs and develop skills to provide targeted supports
* Meet regularly with your manager and participate in regular feedback, including formal and informal observations
* Complete administrative tasks including, but not limited to, maintaining the center, monitoring workshop space, monitoring technology, taking attendance, inputting and tracking data, maintaining accurate student records, and contacting students
* Collect, analyze, and utilize data to maintain and advance program quality
* Organize and maintain program supplies to ensure students have access to the tools they need daily
Other duties as assigned
* Prepare classroom materials and resources
* Provide staff support to assist in coordinating and facilitating Student Success Workshops
* Uphold tutoring room expectations by managing student behavior and monitoring productivity
* Challenge students to reach content mastery through homework help and supplemental learning activities
QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's degree required
* Master's degree preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
* Experience in Microsoft Office
* Experience in digital media technologies is a plus
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills
* Experience working with diverse student populations
* Experience in curriculum design
SUPERVISION
* This position reports to the Director of The Center for Academic Excellence
SALARY RANGE
* $50,000 annually, plus benefits!
