Hiring Department Division of Food, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences Job Description The Division of Food, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences (FNES) in the College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources (CAFNR) is seeking an Academic Advisor. Our Division supports multiple degree programs in the fields of Food Science, Nutrition and Exercise Physiology, and Dietetics. Advising Responsibilities
  • Advise FNES undergraduate students in a manner that fosters academic success, retention, and career development
  • Interact with FNES Senior Academic Advisor, Associate Division Director, faculty, and the CAFNR Office of Academic Programs
  • Keep current on curricular matters and student organizations
  • Competently use the various technology platforms available (e.g., myZou, MU Connect, Stellic) in serving students
  • Participate in advising-related professional development opportunities (Advisors Forum, NACADA)
  • Advise incoming students during Summer Welcome, August Welcome, and Winter Welcome as well as internal transfers
  • Assist students on a day-to-day basis through walk-in and scheduled appointments, phone calls, email, and other modes as needed
  • Assist students with understanding university and program policies and procedures. Refer students to correct offices and programs as necessary
  • Advise and communicate with students on curriculum, course enrollments, and substitution/waiver requests, transfer requests, add/drop procedures, deadlines etc
  • Track student course enrollment and evaluate and monitor degree completion progress and course and grade deficiencies
  • Collaborate with CAFNR's Director of Career Development in providing FNES undergraduates with support as they build their development plan to be academically successful and career ready
  • Assist in collecting degree program learning outcome data from graduates
  • Maintain all student data as required by the program
  • Engage in regularly scheduled meetings with CAFNR's team of academic advisors and CAFNR-AP personnel for support and training; and with Advisors' Forum
  • Educate, advise, and prepare students for RISE experiences
  • Recommend faculty mentor (s) after learning of career and academic goals. Help build connections and relationships with appropriate faculty mentor(s)
  • Correspond with prospective and admitted students via phone calls, letters, emails and mailing degree program materials
  • Attend two graduation ceremonies a year (spring and fall)
Recruiting/Event Planning Responsibilities
  • Assist with prospective student and group recruitment campus visits
  • Generate and pull reports for data analysis to determine where to focus recruiting efforts
  • Work to build relationships with employers and communities to actively place graduates and/or potential students to programs
  • Represent the Division on the CAFNR Recruiting Committee to develop actionable undergraduate recruiting goals & strategies
  • Represent FNES at career fairs at off-campus sites, including high schools
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting recruitment and other student-related events such as new student orientations, student socials/receptions, open houses, tours
  • Assist with creating and implementing marketing and promotion strategies of and for the division
  • Assist with other duties and tasks as assigned
Shift Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, some evenings and weekends may be required Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary Preferred Qualifications 2-5 years advising experience, recruiting and event planning experience and knowledge of the university Anticipated Hiring Range Salary Range:$38,480 - $54,787 annually, commensurate with experience.
