Department Dean's Office - CPHS Specific Job Title Academic Advisor - Nursing Reports to Associate Dean for Health Sciences Programs (Dr. C. Murphy) Campus Queens Job Summary The Academic Advisor will help in the academic advisement, registration, and observation of students' progression in the nursing program. The advisor will also assist with ongoing assessment and data entry linked to all associated processes and assist in the general activities of the Office of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. - Participate in the advisement of students in the Nursing Program
- Maintain appropriate student records and other needed information and documentation by utilizing Banner, Electronic File Cabinet (EFC), Xtender, DegreeWorks, Canvas, and other appropriate software
- Assist in the processing of potential transfer students
- Utilize databases to track all students advised in a longitudinal fashion
- Assist in the tracking and analyzing the progression of students, particularly those who are having academic difficulty
- Develop written academic success plans for select students for submission to the progression subcommittees for the nursing program
- Provide academic counseling for program changes and scheduling
- Assist in student recruitment efforts of the College
- Complete reports and student evaluations as required by internal and external associates including accrediting agencies
- Assist/participate in student-oriented events and services sponsored by the College and/or University
- Represent the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on various University Committees as requested
- Serve as a liaison to other units and support services throughout the University
- Participate in event during the evenings and weekends as required for special programs and events
- Complete special projects as assigned by the Dean, Associate Dean, or designee(s)
Competencies Required qualifications skills
- Graduate degree in education, counseling, or another related field
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work well with others at various levels
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Preferred skills
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in higher education working directly with college students (nursing advisement preferred)
- Knowledge of Banner, DegreeWorks, Xtender, and Canvas
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
Work Environment
- Professional office environment utilizing standard office equipment
