Position Title:Academic Advisor - Temporary PoolDepartment: AdvisingCampus: College WideAdditional Information: Please note: If you are a PSERS retiree, per PSERS guidelines, employment by the College as an adjunct faculty member will result in the suspension of your retirement benefits by PSERS.This posting is a pool and not for any specific position.Job duties listed in this posting are general in nature and will vary depending on location.Specific job duties will be explained during interview.This is a temporary part-time position with option for medical benefits at full employee cost..Transcripts: Applicants must electronically attach scanable unofficial transcripts when applying to this posting.Work hours (for hourly positions): Days and hours vary according to class schedule and the needs of the College and Department.Salary Grade: N/AJob Category: Temporary Part-Time PoolEmployment Type: Temporary Part-TimeGeneral Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Registration and Advisement orother designated supervisor, meet with and advise new, prospective and currentstudents concerning their college studies and academic and educational needs,and provide appropriate support, guidance, information and direction to assiststudents to achieve their academic goals. Advisors engage studentsholistically, including career choices, curriculum options, majors, courseplanning, College policies and procedures, personal assistance and referral to communityservices, and academic support.Requirements:Bachelor's Degreerequired. Master's Degree and/or academic preparation in counseling, highereducation administration, student services, or other field allied with programsoffered at CCAC preferred. Prior work experience and/or demonstratedfamiliarity with student issues and the ability to interact with students withdiverse needs.Duties: 1. Participate in mandatorytraining sessions, attend professional development workshops and activities asrequired, and assist in development of training materials and programs forfaculty advisors. 2. Interview students concerningtheir readiness for college studies, their choice of major, their need fordevelopmental coursework, their possible transfer to a four-year school, andthe basic differences between the high school and college experience. 3. Maintain knowledge of anddisseminate information to students regarding support services available oncampus and across College, and direct students to such services, as needed orappropriate. 4. Provide advising services in theCollege advising centers and assist the directors of registration andadvisement and/or other supervisory personnel in providing prompt assistance tostudents regarding program requirements and the registration process. 5. Develop academic schedules fornew and continuing students utilizing the Degree Audit and other materialsdeveloped by the campus; provide students with information on all academicpolicy questions. 6. Advise students on generaltransfer information and refer students to appropriate transfer personnel. 7. Advise students changing theirmajor by checking courses that apply to the new major (degree audit) andcompleting the appropriate paperwork. 8. Meet with students applying forgraduation (utilizing Degree Audit) to assess graduation status. 9. Meet with probation students andother at-risk students and direct students, as necessary, to a counselor,success coach, or other student development professional. 10. Use on-line student system toresearch student's transcript, availability of classes, and calendarinformation. 11. Evening and/or Saturdayadvising may be required.12. Perform other related duties asrequired or assigned.Clearances:Current criminal record/child abuse clearances will be required if offered the position and in order to be employed at the College. The three clearances are Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Check, and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Check.
