LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. More than half are first-generation college students. Sixty-nine percent live in Queens; the rest live in Brooklyn and beyond. Approximately two-thirds of our degree students receive financial aid. Please visit www.laguardia.edu to learn more.Reporting to the ASAP Director, this position is responsible, but not limited to, the following:Collaborate with the ASAP Associate Director(s) for advisement to develop and oversee engagement opportunities for probation and at-risk students to improve academic performance and increase retention and persistence among program students.Establish and maintain relationships with campus departments essential to programming, including Admissions, Registrar, Bursar, Financial Aid, and IT.Oversee the ASAP financial aid liaison to ensure alignment and effectiveness. Develop and manage consistent processes for staff to improve FAFSA completion and reduce SAP/verification issues, ensuring seamless integration of financial aid into advising conversations.Implement and oversee processes for program incentive distribution in coordination with relevant college departments.Create and manage systems to consistently disseminate all non-advisement program data to staff, providing regular context and updates (in consultation with the Director).Analyze student academic data, identify support needs, and determine appropriate interventions such as tutoring.Track and report on co-requisite and gateway course student engagement, tutoring participation, and course success rates, coordinating with the Assistant Director for strategy development.Work closely with the career specialist to develop programming that supports student growth, exposure to NACE career competencies, and career readiness.Chair program working groups and oversee the program advisement master calendar, ensuring activities are prioritized for high impact and do not conflict with peak student engagement periods. Standardize RSVP and event attendance processes, ensuring timely data entry for engagement activities.QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree required (Master's preferred) in an appropriate discipline with six years of related experience. A master's degree in a related field may substitute for two years of experience.Proven ability to collaborate effectively, manage multiple projects, and prioritize tasks to achieve high-impact results.Strong understanding of the financial aid process and career development and demonstrated experience integrating these into advising and student support strategies.Ability to use data to inform internal program processes and student interventions.Deep understanding of the experiences of historically marginalized racial groups in U.S. education, particularly Black, Indigenous, and Latinx communities.Ability to foster inclusive, equitable working relationships with students and peers.Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and Access, with experience in CUNYfirst and Tableau being a plus.Excellent organizational, communication, and supervisory skills.Experience with EAB Navigate, Signal Vine, or other retention and communication tools is preferred.OTHER QUALIFICATIONSExperience presenting workshops and seminars, particularly for community college students, is desirable.Familiarity with position-related computerized applications, including EAB Navigate, Signal Vine, Microsoft Office Suite, and data visualization tools like Tableau. Proven ability to utilize technology effectively in student support services.Demonstrated self-sufficiency, problem-solving skills, and the ability to follow up efficiently.Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet program requirements and maximize student engagement.Excellent communication, administrative, and organizational skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively in a retention-based program.Experience working within a centralized program structure, reporting responsibilities to a central CUNY ASAP Office or similar organization.Familiarity with NACE career competencies and emerging trends in career development, particularly those relevant to community college students, with a focus on integrating these into student support and programming.Multilingual ability (English/Spanish) is a plus, particularly for supporting the diverse needs of students from historically marginalized communities.CUNY TITLE OVERVIEWAccelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) helps students earn their college degree as quickly as possible, by removing the financial, academic, and personal obstacles that many students confront.
