Posting DetailsPosition Information Position Title Academic Coordinator/Counselor Job Description Job Purpose:The Academic Coordinator/Counselor provides academic and administrative support for the Upward Bound Office by recruiting participants, advising/counseling program participants, assisting in program planning, ACT preparation, college, scholarship, and financial aid applications, maintaining records, assisting with special projects, attending meetings, and performing other duties as assigned by the director. Accountability:Reports to the Upward Bound DirectorGeneral Statement of Duties:
- Assist in the day-to-day administration of the Upward Bound process in various aspects of program operation including visiting target area schools and the recruitment of students
- Monitor student academic achievement and deficiencies
- Review policies and procedures and make recommendations for improvements; assist in formulating and implementing internal office procedures; assist in enforcing rules and regulations
- Monitor and maintain files on program participants
- Ensure that student data is submitted for timely reports
- Assist in the facilitation of proposal writing, parent workshops, and development
- Schedule, organize, and attend meetings as assigned by the director; report on meeting events; may represent the director, if appointed, at designated workshops, committee or other meetings and/or speaking engagements
- Assist speakers, consultants, committee members, and others in matters related to the department; answer inquiries; gather and distribute information
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the director

- Skill in the operation of a variety of office machines including personal computers, fax machines, telephones, and copiers.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and exercise judgment and discretion in interpreting and applying operational policies and procedures.
- Ability to work well with people with diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to compose and prepare reports, records, and correspondence.
- Experience working with Upward Bound or another Trio Program.
Required Qualifications Job Specifications: (Acceptable Experience and Training)This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in an appropriate subject area and at least three years of successful professional experience in college administration, federal relations or development, or a related field. Applicant must possess good typing and computer skills along with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
