The School of Art and Design in the College of Creative Arts & Media is currently accepting applications for an Academic Lab Manager.
About the Opportunity
This position manages and serves as the supervisor of all studios in the College of Creative Arts and Media (CCAM)-School of Art & Design (SoAD) located in the Canady Creative Arts Center, with a focus on the ceramic, wood, and metal shops. Also serves as the Chemical Hygiene Officer for the College of Creative Arts and Media.

What You'll Do
Health and Safety
* Serve as the Chemical Hygiene Officer.
* Advise all faculty as needed on studio safety issues.
* Provide guidance in the selection of safe materials and chemicals, with emphasis on proper handling and disposal of leftovers/scrap/waste.
* Attend safety workshops and training as required. Maintain safe working conditions in the SoAD and the CCAM. Monitor adherence to federal, state, and university policy and guidelines and report violations and make recommendations to the school Director and Dean's Office.
Instructional Assistance
* Provide instruction and supervision of students in the proper usage of shop tools and equipment.
* May be asked to teach studio art courses in the SoAD as needed (not more than one per semester).
* Assist students with class assignments by providing guidance in the engineering of safe construction methods for 3D class assignments, materials, etc.
* Maintain all power tools in good working order along with SoAD studio equipment.
Other General Duties
* Responsible for maintaining all vehicles operated by the school.
* Transport materials/cargo for school projects, as needed.
* Engineer, design, and create mechanical drawings to scale for studio maintenance and improvement.
* Conduct inventory control, order supplies, arrange retrieval and delivery of supplies and/or WVU surplus items.
* May be asked to support other SoAD and CCAM projects as needed.
* Maintain a clean and safe work environment in all studios.
Pay Grade: 19
* Bachelor's degree in a related field.
* A minimum of one (1) year of work experience using machinery, design/fabrication experience, and experience with chemical safety protocols
* Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
* All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
* Ability to supervise others.
* Ability to communicate clearly.
* Demonstrated ability to use, repair, and maintain power and hand tools such as table saws, planer, band saws, wood lathe, metal lathe, milling machine, and welders.
* Ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain equipment, including electrical repairs.
* Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations.
* Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
* Ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
* Ability to perform duties in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Sculpture or Ceramics
