Position Summary
The University of Georgia Marine Institute (UGAMI), located on Sapelo Island, Georgia, seeks an Academic Professional to develop and provide oversight of the Institute's residential instructional programs for University students. The candidate will also assist the Director with communications and administration. The appointment will be at the rank of Academic Professional Associate, which is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position.
The position is based on Sapelo Island, but should be able to make a firm commitment to the position's extensive travel needs to Athens and other destinations around the State (approximately 1 week a month). Housing is available at the Marine Institute.
Additional Requirements
University-level teaching experience is required.
Although it is possible to commute to Sapelo via ferry, residence on-site is required when programs are in session (including some weekends).
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
Other qualifications include:
* Established record of teaching or supervising undergraduate students in a field setting
* Evidence of history and success in administrative work
* Background working in field stations, including familiarity with Sapelo Island and UGA, will be of significant advantage.

* Strong interpersonal communication skills;
* Demonstrated ability to establish and develop productive and collegial relationships, collaboration, and communication with various constituencies, including students, faculty, staff, and administrators;
* Ability to collect, compile, analyze and evaluate information and make verbal or written presentations based on this information

Administration of UGAMI Academic Programs:
The person in this position has primary responsibility for developing and administering residential instructional programs at UGAMI, including identifying instructors, recruiting students, developing course budgets, creating marketing materials, and facilitating all aspects of the student experience (including residential life, health and safety). The person acts as a liaison with the UGA campus (e.g. Registrar's Office, Office of Instruction, Academic Advising) and other USG units.

Student Supervision:
The person in this position helps teach courses in their area of specialty, mentors students conducting independent research projects, students conducting independent research, and provides instructional and logistical support for visiting classes.

UGAMI Administration:
The person in this position is part of the UGAMI leadership team and serves as the Assistant Director for Academics. This includes representing the Institute in interactions with partners, potential funders, and other visitors; pursuing external funding opportunities, including financial aid for students; and contributing to the UGAMI administration (e.g. helping with strategic planning, serving as the IACUC representative).
