Academic Resource Center Specialist
**POSITION DETAILS**
The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) located in the heart of Harlem, New York, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, the institution transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine (SoM) in 2016. The CUNY SoM offers an accelerated BS/MD degree (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Masters Degree (27 months program). Under the direction of the Director of the Learning Resource Center, the Academic Resource Specialist will support the mission, vision and goals of the CUNY SoM, evaluate students academic progress, provide recommendations to improve individual test taking, studying skills, and learning methods throughout the course of the program; and they will also help coordinate and communicate educational expectations to students. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Academic Resource Specialist duties include but are limited to the following responsibilities:
+ Develop a course of study pertaining to study skills and test taking techniques for interested or recommended student(s) based on curriculum encompassing the Core Instructions for each student; communicate feedback concerning the expectation of achievement with respect to Program Learning Objectives (PLO), Course Goals, and Course Learning Objectives (CLO).
+ Meet with the students to collect, review, and assess student learning by reviewing the full body of work produced during the learning period and collecting representative samples of that work. Participate in proctoring and preparing any state mandated and school wide testing; provide test prep strategies and materials for students.
+ Assist students in the design and/or implementation of lesson plans throughout the academic year, especially in academically challenging didactic and clinical year courses to ensure academic growth and excellence for each student that fits the students learning styles.
+ Complete attendance records, portfolio of work samples, and work reports for each student; order and distribute educational resources or materials as appropriate based on the students academic needs.
+ Notify students of school-related updates and provide information regarding the schools educational and support services, such as the Learning Resource Center (LRC), Wellness Center, and Student Affairs.
+ Identify student needs, and cooperate with faculty and staff in assessing and helping students with health, personal, and learning challenges by way of an Accountability Plan.
+ Maintain professional competence through in-service educational activities provided by the school and other professional growth activities.
+ Attend meet and greet events with approved vendors and various community events, and participate in and supervise students during orientation, and field trips as assigned; serve as a Faculty Advisor for professional students.
+ Participate in program responsibilities such as student admissions, curriculum development, student evaluation, and duties necessary for program maintenance of accreditation; collect pertinent academic data in order to participate in Student Study Team (SST) or special education meetings.
+ Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of the Learning Resource Center or designee.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
**PREFERRED:**
+ Master's degree in Business Administration or closely related field
+ Experience in conducting resource services in a higher education or public sector setting
+ Demonstrated in-depth knowledge program development, learning management, and special education in higher education.
+ Experience in delivering Higher Education Academic/Educational Skills programming for Health Care Professionals
+ Use technology in an effective manner for teaching, communicating, analyzing, and reporting
+ Must be familiar with the NCCPA, PANCE Blueprint, PACKRAT Exams, Exam Master, and other standardized test
+ Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Outlook, Word, Access, and Excel
+ Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication (verbal and written) skills.
+ Detail-oriented and accurate with strong quantitative, financial, and critical thinking skills.
**CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW**
Administers the activities of a learning resource or support center.
- Supports the design and delivery of academic resources such as tutoring, remedial and other student programs and services, delivered in a variety of modes, including on-line
- Produces and administers training programs, lectures, workshops, seminars and special events
- Collaborates with various College offices to improve student and faculty services; implements new services and assures existing services are effectively provided.
- Serves as resource expert for students and faculty regarding center policies and procedures, and if needed, technology issues related to their learning experience
- May assist and/or supervise office operations and/or department budget
