Position Type: Elementary School Teaching/Academic Intervention ServicesDate Posted: 9/3/2024Location: Crompond SchoolDate Available: 09/10/2024Closing Date: Until Filled Job Title: Academic Support Intervention Teacher Job Category: AIS Contract Department/Group: K-12 Job Description Job Summary: The AIS teacher communicates with the classroom teacher and then provides the students with additional practice and assistance with the material currently being taught. Assistance is also provided in the learning standard areas which students have been identified as deficient in. Homework assistance may also be provided, though this is not the focus of the class. Students may also hone organizational skills, practice academic content, and prepare for classroom exams and/or prepare for Regents exams at the appropriate time. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Valid NYS Teaching Certificate/License.
  • Classroom teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience and/or understanding of At-Risk students; learning interventions, low-achieving students, adolescent development, and motivational strategies preferred.
Primary Activities
  • Assesses students' educational needs.
  • Provides support to classroom teachers.
  • Provides direct instruction to students.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers (example, attending team meetings).
  • Establishes objectives for each child in overall program.
  • Evaluates individual student progress and program goals.
  • Serves as a member of Team Leaders Council.
  • Helps students work toward positive citizenship in the school.
  • Interacts with parents during conferences, home visits, planbook signing, and telephone conferences.
  • Develops a working relationship with support service agencies outside school.
  • Stays current with research on intervention strategies.
  • Provides inservices to staff on academic support program objectives, and evaluation of students when needed.
  • Assists students in strengthening their study skills.
  • Helps students identify effective learning strategies and develop tools to apply them.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, word denotations and connotations, spelling, writing, and mathematics.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
  • is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Is regularly required to climb, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and to reach above the head and reach forward.
  • Is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls and to talk and hear.
  • At times, required to work at a height of 20' or more off the ground in order to perform job duties.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or push up to 75 pounds.
  • Must have specific vision abilities for close vision, distance vision, depth perception and tell the difference between colors
