Hastings College seeks an Academic Support Specialist in Studio 200. Studio 200 is a student-centered, relationship-based support center that meets students where they are academically and partners with them through engagement and instruction to identify and attain their academic and personal goals. Strong writing, communication, and technology skills are essential, as is an ability to engage successfully with students and faculty.RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Provide writing, research and academic support to students
- Provide constructive & instructive feedback for students on essays, assignments & presentations
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to support overall student success, retention and persistence
- Provide technological, time management, advising, college and life skills coaching in one to one and small group settings
- Support the Student Accessibility & Transition Coordinator, including helping to manage the testing center in Studio 200
- Collaborate with the Director of Studio 200 and campus partners to create and facilitate programming to address student needs
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Writing, Education, Social Sciences, or related field; If an absence of a degree in a closely related field, significant relevant job experience will be considered in leu
- Experience in academic support or tutoring
- Experience working with under-resourced or differently prepared college students preferred
General Skills & Characteristics:
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to successfully navigate a wide range of technology/software
- Work effectively and flexibly as a member of a student success team
- Knowledge and understanding regarding citation styles
