Overview:
Provide academic student support by working one-on-one and in small groups with students on specific concepts and skills.
Responsibilities:
- Tutor individual and small groups of students in fundamental and advanced skills and areas of knowledge.
- Facilitate student study groups.
- Provide assistance to students in comprehending discipline specific subject matter.
- Respond to student questions requiring an in-depth knowledge of subject matter, course concepts and learning objectives.
- Assist in conducting student support functions.
- Provide assistance with testing in special circumstances where discipline specific knowledge is required (e.g. students with special needs).
- Support student use of discipline specific technology and the course learning management system.
- Oversee work study students and student help.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field or, in limited circumstances, the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
Experience:
- Prior tutoring experience desirable.
Knowledge Abilities/Skills:
- Proven ability to work effectively with students of varying ages, cultures, and knowledge base.
- Proven ability to communicate ideas, principles and concepts effectively in individual or small group settings.
- Computer literacy skills at an intermediate level including a proven ability to utilize and apply Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point as well as specialized software programs and computer applications essential to the learning process e.g. the Colleges Learning Management System and ERP.
- Knowledge of information research strategies. Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
- Must have ability to travel to other sites as needed.
- Fluency in a second language may be required.
Preferred Qualifications & Special Considerations
- Knowledge of Monmouth County and its communities. College-wide position that may require flexible hours/schedule in any Brookdale location.
