Job Summary The Access Services Assistant oversees daily operations in the library's circulation unit, including the opening and closing of the building and supervising work of library graduate assistants. In conjunction with the full-time/weekday Access Services Manager and Assistant, processes interlibrary loan requests and course reserves. Supports library users as needed. Ability to work an evening and weekend schedule.This position works in-person, 20 hours a week, Friday through Sunday schedule: Fri 1-7; Sat 11-5, Sun 2-10p. Not work-from-home eligible.Essential Functions
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
- Assists with circulation operations, providing direct service to all patrons.
- Applies creative solutions to challenges regarding circulation operations and services.
- Responsible for opening and closing the library on weekends.
- Assists in filling interlibrary loan requests from Jefferson faculty, students, staff, and outside organizations, including consortia partners, using the ILLiad and Reshare systems during the evening and weekend hours.
- Supervise the work and schedules of evening and weekend federal work-study and institutional graduate assistants.
- Maintains course reserves materials and procedures.
- Other duties/projects as assigned.
QualificationsMinimum Education and Experience Requirements: Education:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred; high school diploma or GED required
- Some course work from ALA-accredited library science graduate program, preferred;
ANDExperience:
- 2+ years of public/customer service experience.
- Experience in an academic library setting preferred.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):
- Basic skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Sharepoint required.
- Experience with ALMA, ILLIAD, ReShare, and Springshare products preferred.
- Ability to use and learn basic computer software and library-specific operational systems.
