  • The Office of Lyon County Treasurer has an employment opportunity for an Account Clerk
This is a non-exempt position. The employee serving in this position performs a variety of accounting, clerical, and title functions. This employee assures the accurate processing of motor vehicle titles, registrations, cash transactions, real estate and personal property tax activities with the appropriate documentation and recording of the same. Motor Vehicle typically involves Kansas Laws and regulations governing the registration of motor vehicles complying with all laws and regulations set forth by the State. I. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:a. Administers MV daily cash balance and consolidation. Submits funds EFT to State daily. b. Audits and coordinates ATCi balance from previous day for all motor vehicle clerks. c. Processes motor vehicle mail and web tags daily. d. Balances motor vehicle sales tax receipts and submits funds EFT to State monthly. e. Assumes the duties of Motor Vehicle department as assigned. f. Backup for bookkeeper when bookkeeper is not in the office. g. Substitute cash clerk when cash clerk is not in the office. h. Processes property tax payments i. Performs other accounting and clerical duties as assigned by supervisor or department head. j.Duty to maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that employee gets along with customers, citizens, coworkers, and management. k. Being pleasant, respectful, and civil with others on the job and displaying a good-natured, cooperative attitude. l. Maintaining composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in very difficult situations. m. Obligation to be reliable, responsible, dependable, and fulfill duties. n. Must show up for work on a regular and predictable basis as scheduled II. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:a. May be assigned to perform duties in other departments outside the Treasurer or Motor Vehicle divisions to assist in time of peak workloads or staffing shortages. b. Perform duties as needed upon request of department head. c. May be required to attend educational or training courses or seminars. a. Experience: Two years of general office/clerical experience required. Experience should include duties involving clerical, bookkeeping, and data processing. Persons in this job are expected to have acquired sufficient knowledge and experience to be performing at a competent level after 6 months on the job. b. Education: High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent required. c. Knowledge: Acquire knowledge of statutory requirements pertaining to the office of the County Treasurer and the Motor Vehicle Division. A working knowledge of accounting principles practices and must have the ability to receive and follow verbal and written instructions. Required to read, write and speak English fluently with the ability to speak a foreign language helpful. Skills: Ability to read and interpret building blue prints, maps and mass appraisal generated reports. Ability to deal effectively with taxpayers on both a verbal and written basis. Operate typewriter, calculator, computer, fax machine, copy machine and other office machines. Problem Solving: Must have ability to solve practical problems involving a mix of variables. Decision Making: Moderate decision making occurs in this position. Duties to follow prescribed policies and procedures set forth by the State of Kansas, County Treasurer and Motor Vehicle supervisor. Supervisory: Not applicable. Financial/Budgetary Accountability: Must ensure that work and overtime hours within the constraints of county and office policy are not abused. Interpersonal: Frequent contact with the public, other County departments and employees requiring tactful and effective communication skills. Working Conditions: No adverse working conditions exist in this position but may be required to work overtime. Physical Requirements: Store and retrieve documents and cartons weighing 25 pounds extending from floor level to 72 inches in height. Requires sufficient level of visual activity to read, write and operate office equipment. Requires sufficient hearing level to deal with the public and communicate with others directly or by telephone.
