The Accountant - Accounts Payable is responsible for the planning, organizing and maintenance of the College's accounts payable functions, included but not limited to all fund sources as required by the Fiscal Procedures Manual of the Alabama Community College System, the Alabama Community College Board of Trustees and all applicable Federal and State rules and regulations.

At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include:
* Reconciles all accounts payable (AP) accounts, including student payable accounts.
* Reconciles all Coastal Alabama Credit Accounts to include, but not limited to: Sams, Amazon, Wells Fargo, and Walmart.
* Reviews and approves all accounts payable transactions and invoices for accuracy before checks are issued.
* Maintains accounts payable state and federal agency records that concern the college's billings/funding.
* Records, tracks, and resolves related invoice payment issues.
* Responsible for the issuing of the disbursement file of student credit and aid refunds, including SEOG, Federal Pell grant, direct student loans, private scholarships, and drop/withdraw credits.
* Resolve financial issues with external vendors.
* Assists with financial statement year-end close out processes that involve accounts payable.
* Maintains all required accounts payable files to ensure organized and correct documentation is maintained for annual audits.
* Assists in preparation of annual audits as directed.
* Troubleshoots problems before they arise, especially those issues related to third-party vendor setup and student payables.
* Communicates all policies and procedures as necessary to students, faculty and/or staff.
* Participates in the annual process of preparing and issuing 1099's.
* Responsibility for the review, preparation, and payment of travel reimbursements according to current state policy and procedures.
* Performs responsibilities in Banner as directed for accounts payable functions.
* Participates in meetings related to any accounts payable functions as needed.
* Collaborates with Deans and Directors on budget line-item adjustments, when needed.
* Collaborates with other departments of the college: academic, admissions, registrar, and billing on any vendor issue that might arise.
* Assists as needed during registration period at the College.
* Assists as backup when needed in front counter student financial matters, including payments, refunds, etc.
* Assists as backup when needed in call queue.

Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
* Five years of related experience.
* Ability to work well with others, work under pressure, and handle multiple and competing priorities.
* Proficient in all Microsoft Office functions.
* Proficient in use of student management system with ability to assist with any implementation of new computer systems.
* Effective oral and written communication skills.
* Excellent time management skills.
* Ability to travel between campuses as needed. A current and valid driver's license to travel between campuses, as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
* Ellucian/Banner ERP experience.
* Community College experience.
* Ability to organize, manage confidential information, and oversee special projects through to completion.
* An understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college.
* Commitment to all students and faculty including those of diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
* An understanding of the broad range of students' abilities in an open admissions college and the ability to communicate to the community college student population.
