Middle Georgia State University (MGA), a multi-campus, baccalaureate and graduate degree granting public institution, is the most affordable public state university in Georgia. MGA has five campuses-Macon, Cochran, Dublin, Eastman, and Warner Robins, all located in central Georgia-and global outreach through its fully-online campus. Its enrollment of 8,000 students is largely comprised of students from most of Georgia's 159 counties. Job Summary

This position performs accounting duties in support of a variety of the university's departmental functions.

Responsibilities

Financial Account Reconciliations (40%) -

Reconciles all federal and state financial aid programs

Draws down and returns federal financial aid funds in the USDOE G5 system and prepares related journal entries

Provides receipting information and processes return of funds requests for Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) programs.

Process repayments for outstanding federal and state financial aid over-awards.

Reconciles student Veteran's Administration flight accounts with Banner and flight software

Monthly Accounting Entries (30%) -

Prepares and processes monthly journal entries, and enters month end closeout journal entries.

Completes trip ticket invoicing and journaling.

Prepares invoices for federal, state and private grants

Asset Management and Physical Inventory (20%) -

Reviews and analyzes inventory listing generated from financial accounting system.

Distributes department inventory listing to inventory custodians.

Consolidates data received from custodians, updates asset locations in financial accounting system, and communicates inventory updates with Accountant II and Director of Finance.

Completes annual physical sample of inventory.

Miscellaneous Operational Duties (10%) -

Documents daily bank transactions.

Reviews, approves, and transmits airport fuel sales deposits for receipting

Answers telephone calls and emails; determines nature of requests and responds accordingly.

Attends meetings.

Performs any additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

Required Experience

Experience in accounting or equivalent position

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines.

Knowledge of university and University System of Georgia policies and procedures.

Knowledge of university policies and procedures.

Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.

Skill in decision making and problem solving.

Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.

Skill in oral and written communication.
