They will require seasoned accounting skills and have strong organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner.RESPONSIBILITIES:Post Award Grant and Gift Budget Administration* Administers post-award budgets and financial reporting for federal, foundation, and other funding bodies, ensuring tasks are accomplished on time and in compliance with university, federal and sponsor guidelines.* Maintains financial monitoring systems, including projections, reconciliation, effort management and PI reports for grants and special projects.* Establishes grant accounts, ensuring alignment with approved budget and sponsor regulations.* Meets regularly with PIs and account managers; reports on the status of grant activities, budget and future balances.* Prepares reports and financial statements regarding status of sponsored projects.* Keeps Grants and Contracts Administrator apprised of budget concerns, and upcoming deadlines, including budget period end dates for both main grant and subawards.* Works with the Office for Research and Accounting Standards (ORACS) to prepare and submit financial reports and account closeouts. Handles financial reporting inquiries from both internal & external constituentsAccounting and Financial Monitoring* Performs analyses and tests necessary to ascertain integrity of accounting data, account balances, and timeliness of reporting. Makes day-to-day interpretations and decisions on the accounting treatment / allocation of financial transactions, with particular attention to special projects, gifts and sponsored project accounts.* Maintains systems for account reconciliation. Completes monthly reporting and reconciliation; research and resolve problems or variances. Monitors and reports on tuition, financial aid, salary and benefits.* Prepares routine and special reports upon request, indicating the current or projected status of funds.* Performs cost finding analyses for use in recommending rates for redistribution of costs or recovery from third party sponsored programs.* Monitors special purpose funds. Establishes accounting classifications, and prepares reports on the status of such funds for principal investigators and leadership. Develops systems of controls.* Develops and recommends policies and procedures related to accounting systems and financial reporting. Prepares instruction for changes in accounting systems.* Support financial monitoring of the complex tuition system for all Warner students. Monitor the timely and accurate processing of waivers (totaling close to $6M/yr.), review monthly tuition management reports and resolve any discrepancies. Create and update reports and projections on tuition and aid.Financial and Personnel Transactions* Originates, or authorizes financial and personnel transactions, including for sponsored programs. Confirms affordability, appropriateness, and allocation of expenses and effort.* Prepares, reviews, approves and monitors invoices on grant and gift programs; monitors and submits for payment of subaward invoices.* Creates and routes personal action forms for faculty and staff.* Approves graduate appointments, confirming affordability and allocation of effort/expenses.* Makes recommendations regarding preferred purchasing methods, aligned with institutional and sponsored program guidelines.* Monitor changes in faculty & staff effort distributions and proactively process the appropriate personnel action forms.* Meets regularly with research, finance and administrative teams to provide updates and address potential challenges.* Coordinate effort reporting and certification requirements: Effort certification in myURHR, Summer Salary certifications, etc.* Work with the building administrator and IT to verify space and equipment data in URSpaceOther duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:* Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business required.* At least three years as staff accountant or relevant professional experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.* Accounting knowledge, skills and experience required.* Advanced organizational skills, attention to detail required.* Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook Excel, PowerPoint and accounting systems required.* Previous grant administration experience preferred.* Familiarity with Workday / UR grant and financial management systems preferred* Continuous Learning for Administrators of Sponsored Programs (CLASP) certification required within 1 year.The University of Rochester is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion to advance the Universitys mission to Learn, Discover, Heal, Create and Make the World Ever Better.
