The position will remain open until we identify the best fit candidate for the position.POSITION SUMMARYThe Accountant will play a crucial role in the financial health of our school. This position will be responsible for a wide range of accounting tasks, ensuring accurate financial records and compliance with relevant regulations. The Accountant reports to the One City Schools Finance Director.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- General Duties: Perform daily accounting activities to meet deadlines and guidelines in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and FASB Accounting Standards; assist in documenting and implementing accounting policies and procedures.
- Accounts Receivable: Maintain daily cash receipt records utilizing various internal and external reporting for proper coding, tracking and designation of funds. Maintain and update accounts receivable records by identifying and posting new AR invoices and payments. Coordinate with the fundraising department to ensure accurate accounting and reporting of grants and gifts.
- Accounts Payable: Oversee the accounts payable processes to ensure vendor payments are timely, coded accurately and documented. Manage online purchasing accounts and staff credit card account maintenance. Coordinate with program departments to ensure appropriate expense coding for restricted grant and gift spending.
- Accounting Cycle: Manage the complete accounting cycle, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial closings.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, to provide insights into the school's financial performance.
- Grant Management: Perform grant accounting, ensuring compliance with grant terms and conditions and timely reporting to funders.
- Budgeting: Assist in the development and maintenance of annual budgets, tracking expenditures against budget allocations and providing variance analysis.
- Tax Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including supporting the completion of the IRS Form 990.
- Internal Controls: Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard school assets and ensure financial accuracy.
- Audits: Provide support and analyses as required in connection with annual financial audit.

ROLE SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, preferably in education or non-profit settings
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience with grant accounting, nonprofit accounting, and/or fund accounting
- Knowledge of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction financial regulations and Federal Uniform Grant Guidelines
- Experience working in a school environment
