Job Description:
The Accounting Department at Bloomfield Township is looking for a Full Time Accountant. This position is part of the General Employee Union with the Governmental Employees Labor Council (GELC). This position is a Salary Grade 109. Salary range: Minimum $57,956.78 to $77,081.76 Maximum. The Township hours for this position are Monday through Thursday 7am to 5:30pm. General Summary:Processes daily revenue receipts, prepares journal entries, accounts receivable reconciliations, monthly bank reconciliation, manage and keep records of all grants and assist the auditors with the Single Audit, maintains vehicle titles and insurance records, create and monitor miscellaneous invoices, and maintain listings of outstanding bonds and escrows deposits. In addition, is a back-up for payroll and Accounts Payable processes whenever necessary. Performs related work as assigned by the Finance Director.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
  • Processes, reconciles, and reviews revenue receipts, miscellaneous invoices, bonds and escrow deposits, and accounts receivables from various departments.
  • Tracks the Township's vehicle inventory, updates the asset module with vehicle purchases and disposals, and prepares and files all accident claims.
  • Reviews and approves purchase orders. Reviews invoices prior to check run as needed.
  • Tracks federal awards for federal grants received for annual audit. Prepares the SEFA report and assists the auditors with the Single Audit.
  • Tracks property maintenance charges and payments for tax roll.
  • Performs as a back-up for payroll and accounts payable processes whenever necessary..
  • Assists with the annual audit, the Single Audit when necessary, and any other duties requested by the Finance Director.
  • Answer and transfer incoming calls to the department as needed
  • Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college with major course work in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3 to 5 years' experience
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIESKnowledge of:
  • Accounting principles
  • Audit processes
  • Relevant Township Accounting policies and procedures
Skill in:
  • Use of computer software as applicable, such as spreadsheets, accounting programs, and enterprise resource software, etc.
  • Use of office equipment, such as scanners, calculators, etc.
Ability to:
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Meet deadlines
Work Environment/ConditionsThe work environment is in an indoor office environment. Occasionally the position will require the person to visit the warehouse for retention and destruction of stored files.
